Sunday morning thoughts and catch up, with images, plans and perhaps even few prognostications.
PIZZA PLACES IN COSTA RICA
I haven’t visited a pizza place (or eaten a real pizza) since coming to Costa Rica more than a year ago, mostly because I’ve read and heard that most of them rank somewhere between so-so and terrible.
Two Brief Side Notes…
I have mentioned before Costa Rica’s complete absence of Puritan — and scant European — influences and the fact that the U.S. notion of “manifest destiny” (including the atrocious genocide and forced relocation of indigenous populations to reservations) was vociferously denounced and frequently countermanded by Catholic fathers, young men and minor nobles across the South American continent from the time they set foot in the (so-called) New World following the arrival of Spanish ships. For more on this, read the book AMERICA AMERICA by Greg Grandin. Another Note: Costa Rica, a Central American country, largely escaped Spanish and European colonization because of its difficult terrain and perceived lack of then-exploitable natural resources .)
NAPOLI PIZZA is #1 IN GRECIA
The one pizza place that I’ve heard great things about in Grecia — Napoli — has been on my “must try” list for at least five months. So, Cindy and I went there on Friday and ordered two personal size pizzas. They were 3000 colones each (a little over six and a half USD at today’s exchange rate).
OH! MY! WORD!
I don’t think I’ve had a better tasting pizza in my life. I ordered a Hawaiian; Cindy ordered a Venezia. (Ingredients for each is shown in an image below, in case you want to try to bake one of them — or any of the others you see listed there — at home!)
We tried each other’s pizza. Both received two thumbs up from me. If I’d had more thumbs, they would have received as many as I had!
Cindy’s tasted most like a traditional pizza, of course. (We think the green bits sprinkled on hers was cilantro.)
Mine tasted almost like a dessert, it had so much pineapple on it. I LOVED it!

My “Hawaiana” pizza
Translation Assist:
Hawaiian:
Jamon = ham
Hongos = mushrooms
Queso = cheese
Venezia:
Tocineta = bacon
Cebolla = onion
We were stuffed afterward. Ate every bite. I also had a Coca Cola.
Saturday I Walked with Cindy and two of her dogs
The rest of the day, I more or less just vegged, other than putting in a load of clothes to wash and then hanging them on the clothes lines under the patio roof to dry.
The lawn care guys came on Saturday to spruce the place up, so Charli stayed indoors until they left in the afternoon. Not long after letting her out, the skies opened up with thunder and lightning, so she scurried back indoors and hid under the loveseat until that ended.
God, I love the rainy season. (Charli, not so much!)
Today (Sunday morning)
I walked 7500 steps on the back patio and brought the last of the clothes in off the clothes line and put them away. Charli stayed out with me the entire time.
Here’s a link to a video of her on patio this morning:

She’s adept at being on the “wrong” side of the door several times a day. So, as her doorman, I have to keep my eyes peeled for her druthers… I’m her servant, you know. (I’m also her beloved “mom-cat”. Dad-cats love ’em and leave ’em — their female feline mates — so I’m Charli’s mom-cat, you see, despite being trans! LOL!) (If I have to explain this to you, imagine how weird it is for me! HA!)
Got my Midterm Ballot in My Inbox on the 18th
I haven’t filled it out yet because I’m waiting to hear from FUSE (the Progressive Voters Guide folks) on their recommendations on some of the races. I know to vote NO on the three Initiatives. And I know who I’ll be voting for in the House of Representatives and Senate. There are some Superior/Supreme Court races that I want to learn more about before I choose who to vote for.
I have until Wednesday to complete the ballot because on Thursday I will be taking it to Grecia to the event shown below to have it either emailed or pouched to the US Embassy after I have it printed out there and sign it where it’s required. (If I had a printer here I could avoid going to the event, but I will be able to help the organizers, so that’s good. I’ll be riding in with Kathy Neckar at about 10:30. It’ll be a long day, but very worthwhile!
After Voting is taken care of
…all of my MUST DO’S will be DONE (WOO HOO!) until I get approved as a temporary pensionado resident, which will (hopefully) be sometime very soon. I’m looking forward to paying into CAJA (their universal health care system) so I can drop Part B Medicare and the Part D Drug Plan and get a DIMEX card so I can ride the buses free. Whee!!! With any luck at all, that should happen before year’s end — maybe sooner!
FEELING VERY HOPEFUL
… that enough voters have T-Wreck’s number by now to create a huge blue tsunami on November 3rd, something so huge that even cheating and rigging can’t work to screw us out of our birthright as US citizens. It’s almost like the regime is TRYING to lose, their actions have been so egregious.
I wouldn’t put it past them to pull some dastardly deed to delay or deny the midterm elections.
But if they do that, I think they will find out there are a helluva lot more of us than there are of them.
They’re essentially cowards; I don’t think they have the balls to thwart the will of the people, unless what they decide to do ends us ALL globally. Sociopaths have been known to take a lot of good people with them when they decide to “pull the plug” in some kind of kamikaze mission.
Killing us all in a nuclear war would certainly
…erase all record of their depravities. That’s about the only event that could prevent what they’ve done from hitting the history books and our courts, with severe repercussions for them.
But I’m counting on the belief that people like T-Wrecks and his Cabinet will not self-immolate. They carve eternal power and immortality, not erasure.
That’s my hope, anyway.
We need to vote ourselves
OUT of this dystopian nightmare.
ARE YOU IN?
