Tires (llantas) and thrift store day!
Adilio and I are going tire and thrift store shopping today after my doctor appointment at Clinico Sanchez. WOO HOO!
It suddenly occurred to me yesterday
…that I will be largely furnishing the new apartment (everything other than fridge, microwave, inversion hot plate stove, and washer and dryer), so I will need “starter kit” items that automatically came with the furnished rentals I’ve had up until now. Stuff like coffee pot, toaster, towels, sheets, blankets, bedspreads, kitchen cooking utensils, etc.
So, we’ll be starting at the Catholic thrift store in Grecia to see what I can find there at a discount. Whatever we can’t find, Jon says we can find at Pequeno Mundo in Alajuela, but that would have to happen on another day.
Jon says he has never seen a used toaster or coffee pot at a thrift store here. That’s sure different from the U.S.! Maybe I’ll find a medium sized flatscreen monitor or smart TV there. If not, I’ll do without. I can get anything I need on this laptop easily enough.
Adilio is picking me up at 9:45
…and taking me to the medical appointment to get the antibiotic prescription. After that, we’ll get his tires and go to the thrift store. It feels kinda like Christmas Day to me, as a result.
I’ve already walked 5200 steps on the back patio. Will be putting the rest of the steps (2400+) during the outing today, I’m sure. I’ve been putting in over 11,00p steps pretty reliably lately, which is well beyond the daily minimum that I set for myself (7500). I do 7500 first thing every morning while I’m drinking my coffee and walking on the back patio. Usually reach the goal before 7:30 every morning. Gotta stay spry, balanced and ambulatory for as long as humanly possible! And so far, WOO HOO!, sooooo good! I have never felt better. 75 1/2 isn’t an age, it’s a number!
What else???
Had the first fantastic night’s sleep for the first time in what felt like ages, ever since the blue-nami arrived in the U.S. I can tell the entire world is breathing easier.
On the bus yesterday, it sounded like a fiesta was going on, HERE IN COSTA RICA AMONG TICOS, FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE!!! Everyone was boisterous, animated, and chatting at an elevated decibel level. There was laughter galore. I smiled all the way into town.
It’s a new day, a change in actual vibration. Humanity is hopeful again. I can’t wait to see what the changes in the federal government will produce for those of us who voted them in, and for the world at large. We’re ready to receive the benefits of our hard work and votes. It won’t be easy to right the ship of state, and it won’t happen immediately, but as long as we can see steady progress and hear and experience what we need to hear and experience from our elected representatives, we’ll stay steady and loyal. But start messing with our affections or kowtowing to corporate/oligarchic influencers, and we’ll be voting out those who aren’t 100% on board with getting the money and influence of the top 1% off our necks and backs.
ACCOUNTABILITY STARTS NOW
We don’t want a return to normal. We want a reboot that makes the United States #1 in terms of DEI, the rule of law, and our rights as individuals to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness regardless of class, creed, religion, or race. We have an opportunity here to reform what has been broken forever.
We can even make the Electoral College a vestige of the past, now that we have the DEMS in Congress at the strength we do!
MAKE IT SO!!!
Since the President and Vice President are the only two positions of power that all U.S. citizens vote for, they ought to be voted in SOLELY by the POPULAR VOTE, NOT by a gerrymandered electoral college system that puts a thumb on the scale for former slave-holding states to help them unduly influence the outcome of these positions.
DEMS can do that when they get into power. I hope they make it a priority BEFORE the 2028 genera; election. If they do, I feel certain that we will watch the GOP (and corporate DEMS and every other party that forms) start to seriously represent the voters who give them the power to occupy their seats in government. They’ll have to campaign in every state, advocate in their constituents’ best interests, and show the receipts.
I’m all for it.
There are far more good, honorable voters in both parties (in all parties) than there are scoundrels. It’s time to let the good, honorable voters get what they want instead of what the Electoral College decides.
