Feliz Dia de la Independencia Costa Rica

Feliz Dia de la Independencia, Costa Rica!

This is my second Independence Day in this country. I won’t be doing anything special during it, though. Not this year.

Walked with Cindy, Dogi and Oliver this morning

…and helped Cindy spray Harper’s healing abdomen afterward.

I wanted to help sweep and clean her patio area after she mentioned that she was planning to do that this morning while we were walking. So, when we got back and got Harper squared away, I started to do that, but she shooed me out of there, saying she wasn’t ready to get underway.

Being proactive and ready to roll (with or without her), I told her “I am!”

Well! That went over like a lead balloon!

I guess she prefers to be alone and work at her own pace.

(I’m a hyperactive whirling dervish when it comes to cleaning! That could drive someone else nuts, couldn’t it? Gotta remember that! If I do, maybe she’ll say yes next time!)

So, I came home, finished my walking routine (an additional 1200 steps), picked fruit from the orchard, made my bed, and cleaned the refrigerator. THIS “Merry Maid” did stuff anyway, since I was super primed and in the mood!

Now I’m sitting here listening to soothing background music on the flatscreen. Charli is at my knees on the reclining part of the loveseat, sleeping again after a morning of following me down to the orchard and back and wandering a little more afterward.

If I thought stores would be open today

…I’d take a bus in and shop for groceries, but I’ll do it tomorrow before or after I go to Clinica Sanchez to get my INR checked and to have breakfast with Jon and maybe Francisco. I imagine it’s terribly crowded there this morning, same as last year.  Getting in and out of Grecia would be a challenge for the buses. Some well-traveled routes close during the parade that starts around ten, if I recall correctly from last year.

Yeah, best to stay home and veg today. But I’ll be bringing a LOT of groceries home tomorrow. I have staples (rice, beans, cereals, coffee, etc.) but not a lot else!  Need milk, fruit juice, celery, chicken breasts and potatoes, at the very least. I want to make another crockpot soup tomorrow or the next day.

We Had a Real Gully Washer Yesterday Afternoon

Below are links to the two videos I took during the thunderstorm that sent Charli right under the bed. (In fact, even when I play the videos back, she gets concerned, so I didn’t play more than two seconds of them before posting the links below!)

Charli thinks thunderstorms here are bad, bad news.

And they can be. The lightning bolts often strike very near us here in the Central Valley!  They have ripped apart trees at times. So Charli is smart to be scared.

Not being an alarmist, I just find them fascinating, but there’s no way I’d go outside and stand on a manicured lawn, especially under an umbrella, during one!  Don’t want to become a lightning rod! (Read more about what to do during a lightning storm by clicking on the link that precedes this sentence.)

Guess that’s all the stuff that’s fit to print for this time.  Enjoy the rest of your day!
