Above Image: Me, post haircut!
Marianela and I left my driveway at 9:30 and were back by 10:40. The bank ATM took about a minute; DIMI took about fifteen minutes, and my haircut took about 15 minutes. The rest was travel time. And I have already confirmed next week’s trip with her. (I’ll be dog-sitting Alice and Tio for Jon and Francisco again while they take Clarkie and Dale to the beach again to celebrate Clarkie’s birthday. YAY!)
CUERPO RELEASE FORM COPIED
During the same trip next week, Jon and Francisco will be signing the “relative release form” for the disposition of my “cuerpo” for when I croak. They aren’t relatives, but I have none here in Costa Rica, and UCR says someone here can “substitute”/serve as relatives, so we’re doing that. I can’t imagine any better honorary brothers than them. Jon is a retired nurse and Francisco is an end-of-life palliative care specialist, so I’ll be in trained hands, for sure, as long as they promise to outlive me, and they should! They’re decades younger than I am!
My nuclear family doesn’t care what happens to my remains as long as they don’t have to pay for it. The donation of my cuerpo is free. (UCR is a teaching hospital and they need bodies. Very few Ticos donate their bodies because of their religious beliefs, so I’m in the right place to be a prized/much needed — eventual — corpse! The death certificate will cost something, but I’ll leave that $$ in Jon’s bank account so he has access to it when the time comes — hopefully not for many years!
EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS
I updated my phone emergency contact numbers to reflect the donation and who to call down here and up north in the event of my death (Lisa and Jackie/Laurel). My landlady Cat has the information, too, so we’re all squared away there — or we will be following the Zoom meeting on November 18th with UCR. I’ll be getting a little card to carry in my wallet and one to put on my fridge so emergency responders can be made aware of these arrangements and my medical care wishes. (Things have to happen fast here after someone dies because of the climate.)
3:33 Promptings
The 3:33 a.m./p.m. De prompts are happening again. As you may or may not know, De or Carolyn quite frequently would call me at work at Warner Bros. — or wherever else I was temping before I landed permanent positions at WB — or at home at 3:33. I don’t know if that’s because they had a routine time of day when they would make calls, or not. But is became a routine occurrence.
And, as many of you know, De did two pilot episodes for Gene Roddenberry before Star Trek. One was called POLICE STORY; the other, 333 MONTGOMERY STREET. So I have for decades associated 3:33 with De every time I see it anywhere. (Yellow balloons, too!)
Well, for the past several days, I’ve managed to glance at my watch at exactly 3:33. Each time it happens, I always say, “Hi, De!” I think he has me located in Costa Rica now! I like to think so, anyway…
