It’s Almost the 4th of July … Will I Be In CR on Sept 4th?

July 3, 2025

It’s almost the 4th of July, Independence Day, and I have never felt less like celebrating … even though it may be the last one the United States ever sees. We may not make it to 250 years as a democratic republic because of the GOP… (Fie on them and the Trojan asses they rode in on, from Reagan to Bushes to Trump)

I can only hope I will be in Costa Rica by September 4th, just 63 days from now.

“Bureaucracy — it’s the only constant in the unniverse.”

– Dr. McCoy

Not surprisingly, it is governmental bureaucracy that’s tripping me up. It’s like pulling teeth to get what I need to get outta here on schedule.

With any luck at all, I will get the Social Security earnings benefits letter notarized at BECU on Monday afternoon and on its way to the Secretary of State here in WA for its apostille by Tuesday. That is by no means a certainty, but I think it will happen then.

I printed out what the Secretary of State’s agent told me about the document — that’s it’s good as long I send them a notarized COPY of it. I think that’s all the BECU notary has to know to go ahead and notarize it.

But I need to stop counting my chickens before they hatch

It’s expectations that don’t materialize as easily or quickly as anticipated that frustrate me most.  This is the last (bureaucratic) hurdle that I need to jump (except for Charli’s vet exam two weeks prior to our flight) until after I get to CR, and I want to have it accomplished so I can focus on other things.

Having to double back and try again (and still have no luck) frustrates the stuffing out of me.  (It has happened in two of the three cases so far: FBI background check /apostille and Social Security). Because then I have to find another way over/under/around the hurdle to make sure it happens.

As far as I know, the birth certificate and apostille are underway without a hitch; the check for those was negotiated last week, so I know it’s in process, and I expect to see it in the next week or so, with the FBI apostille to follow a couple weeks later.

If this SS document passes muster on Monday with the notary, the apostille for that will take just 7 to 10 days, so I should have everything in hand by the end of July. If not, ACK!  But for now, tranquilo! I’ll cross that bridge when/if I come to it. Not gonna pre-stress over it for four freaking days, that’s for sure! That would be dumb!

In the meantime, I have garage sales to arrange and run, goat-sitting to do, and I need to pick up my new eyeglasses this coming Monday or Tuesday. My lenses got badly scratched and my prescription changed slightly since last October,  so I ordered a new pair, this time with transition lenses. As a result, when I get to CR I will be able to navigate without sunglasses.
