My Home Looks Like a Discount Hotel Now

November 24, 2024

I have stripped the walls of 99.9% of pictures and other stuff so it looks sterile in here now. Which is frowny sad (to me)!  *sigh*

But it’s all part of the process. I’m slowly getting used it to. It keeps reminding me to move forward so I’ll be 100% ready to leave here when it’s time.

At the upcoming garage sale, I’m offering up the precise things that make a house into a home. I can’t afford to ship much to CR, so I’m paring down to bare essentials over the course of the next several months. Besides, I want to make a new life in CR, so taking some of these things along would tie me to the past, and what goes up on my walls and in my various rooms in CR will likely be the things that drew me there.

If I can wrangle it, I will probably keep my 30+ stuffed animals. They don’t weigh anything, that’s for sure!

I can’t offer the bedrock items yet — the furniture I’m using, the desktop PC (I’ll be getting a laptop instead since I will be fully retired when I relocate to Costa Rica), the new printer I just bought, the aquarium, the shredder, etc. etc. etc.  The final garage sale — months and months hence — will take care of whatever remains at that time.

I would like to find a home for my aquarium and fish before then. I figure it’s easily a $500 setup, including the fish, the fish food, the accessories, the pump, the stand, and the fish — but I’m willing to part with it for around $125 if whoever buys it will move it. If I can’t get that for it, I will have Aquarium Paradise come and get it, or take the fish to them.

And I need to re-home Mr. Tumnus and Tillie, my two goats. Jackie knows someone who will probably take them, and they have a great setup for them, but I’m dragging my feet about calling them. My critters are my heart. I want to keep them here as long as I can, but unless I can get some extra income in here, that might not be for long. I hope to keep them until at least spring. They make me smile…
