My First San Isidro Sunset Feb 1 2026

February 2, 2026

Here are images of my first San Isidro de Alajuela sunset on February 1st, 2026:

Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed!

I look forward to many, many more as the months and years pass…

On the way here Marianela and I drove through two different voting places at schools.  The turnout was sensational.  These people know what democracy looks like!  Ya don’t have to convince them to turn out and vote!  Jon and Francisco voted yesterday, too.  One of these years I will be eligible to vote here, too…  for now, I’m voting in U.S. elections.

Today is my “little sister’s” birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACKIE!

I hope your day is stellar!

I hopped the bus into Grecia at about 8:20 this morning.  I hopped on as it was going up the hill before it turned around to take us to Grecia, so I got a brief 10 to 15 minute tour of the upper heights.

On the way back from Grecia, almost at my bus stop, the bus took a right and drove to San Francisco (Costa Rica not California, or I’d still be on it! LOL!). I didn’t know it was going to do that or I would have rung the buzzer and had them drop me off where it turned right since I was only about 250 meters from Dale and Crystal’s and perhaps a quarter mile more to my post, but it was no big deal: I got a 15 0r 20-minute tour in that direction, too, before the driver turned around and then took us right past my place about 300 feet before he dropped me off.

While in Grecia, I stopped for colones but the ATM at Banco Nacional was out of them, so I used my debit and credit card to buy a few groceries and some cat food.

I jerry rigged my cart to carry my Winco freezer bag, but the effort was a huge flop, so I won’t do that again.  I filled it completely and then bungee corded it to the cart frame, but it was unwieldy and hard to manage/maneuver, and the box doesn’t carry as much stuff, so I will just use the bag that the cart came with from now on.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I had almost nothing in the house this morning to eat, so my first stop after the bank was to Subway to get a half sandwich and a coke for breakfast.  (Yeah, I know.  Crazy!)  It was heaven to me because I was freaking hungry!

I came home and cooked brown rice in my new rice maker for the first time.  Had that for lunch with cheese, Lizano sauce and red beans.

Didn’t get any manzanas or papas (apples or potatoes) today as I planned (they wouldn’t have fit in the Winco Bag), but my landlady says there’s a place within walking distance (for me!) of this abode where I can get those things, which I plan to do tomorrow when I go for my first extended walk here in San Isidro.  I’ve walked 5661 steps so far today.

It’s lovely here today. My landlady says I can take ambiance pictures (trees, foliage) as long as I don’t include the house, so here are some I took this morning:

I’ll post more pix tomorrow. Facebook isn’t uploading them in a timely manner, and they have to appear there before I can move them to here from my phone, for some dumb reason. (Maybe I’m the dumb reason, but I haven’t figured it out yet.)
