Well, That Was Quick and Easy!

June 30, 2014

The changes the UK Solicitor wanted were easy to do so they didn’t take long. She added talking points I didn’t have before, so I needed to add those and finesse them into the copy, but they all worked well, so no major rewriting or reorganization was required.

Today I’m planning to help Jackie put down some mulch in the front flower bed. She’s going after it right now, so I’ll be bailing in a few minutes to go do that.  The weather is perfect for this kind of work, OR for bike riding, but Jackie says she’ll ride with me one or two days this week so I’m hanging in here today to help her outside again.

I should be hearing from Eli soon about when I can go get the windows on my SUV “wrapped” (or whatever you call that professional vinyl lettering activity).  I will have to drive north a little way to meet the person who’ll be applying it, but that’s no biggy.  I know it has to be a nice day (no rain) to get ‘er done. The weather looks perfect all week this week, so that’s good!

What else?  I hate it when I have a hankerin’ to write but there is so little fodder in my “nodder” that I can’t readily come up with something. This morning you’re getting  “stream of consciousness” report from me–nothing game-changing or earth-shaking but… at least I’m writing and that gives me joy.

I’m happy to announce that I’m thisclose to being almost totally off the freelance websites that used to be my bread and butter. They have deteriorated over the years to where they’ve become ghettos for wannabes and newbies who are willing to write primitive stuff for next-to-nothing price-wise for people who want to pay next-to- nothing for copy that’s usually fit only for lining the bottom of bird cages.

The good providers at these sites are all fleeing to their own websites (as I have) because there are customers out here in the real world that recognize the value (ROI, especially) of a professional copy creator and we’re tired of wading for endless hours through penny ante stuff to find the very few clients who are willing to pay  what good copy is worth.

These freelance websites have sealed their own fates, as do the clients/customers/buyers who go there looking for cheap providers and the newbies/wannabes who believe that hanging a shingle without bothering to actually study and practice the art and craft of compelling copy is their ticket to megabucks.

Good luck with that, all.  When you get tired of chasing your tails, you’ll figure it out and do what it takes to get where you want to be.

Until then, keep spinning! But your tail will always be just out of reach…
