The ‘Hope’ Trigger

Hope on display across two centuries…

“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.”   Emily Dickinson

“The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.” Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams

Hope is what keeps a lot of people from falling into despair. A new face cream or plastic surgery offers the hope of resurrecting the way you looked ten years ago; handing money across a counter offers the hope that you’ll be the next big lottery winner. You hope the kind of cancer your mom has will be defeated before it claims her life.

Hope springs eternal.

When selling a product or service, think about what your prospect “hopes” to achieve as a result of purchasing it. If it’s a viable, legitimate result, go ahead and throw a spotlight on their hope.

“Imagine yourself looking and feeling ten years younger…”

“How will it feel to live in a paradise for the rest of your life?”

“What will you be able to do when your business is making enough money and has the reliable staff you need so you can plan a month-long vacation without having to worry for a single minute of it?”

“Imagine having your office put into systematic order so everything is easy to find and you no longer have to step around piles of papers looking for things…”

Imagine  realistic outcomes that your product or service provides and play on that note to pull the “hope” trigger.
