This is My Grown Up Christmas List

December 24, 2014

Love the title song and want to add my own bullet points to it:

* Have as much respect for others’ beliefs as you have for your own; that’s what the freedoms of religion and speech are all about

* Congress: Don’t act holier-than-thou in front of microphones and then vote like scoundrels who care only about their own selfish, narrow interests

* Be transparent. Nobody is perfect, and you make a perfect ass of yourself whenever you try to prove you are.

* Support small businesses. The big box stores and Wall Street don’t spread your money around; they hoard it, gamble with it, and then leave the rest of us to clean up their negligence and short-sightedness (Why should Wal-mart employees have to get government support to eat and have health care when the Walton family is far richer than King Midas ever was?)

* Celebrate diversity! People are people. If you don’t have friends from different races, colors and creeds, you’re missing out–big time. Cultivate concern and connection. We’re all in this together.

* Respect and concern for the fellow creatures who share our planet, including intensively-raised animals that we consume and wild ones deemed ferocious and dangerous. (They don’t have grocery stores; they’re no more dangerous to us than we are to them.)

Guts. Guts enough to stand up for what’s right in this world and guts enough to address (with love) what’s wrong in this world.

* Respect for military veterans. (Homelessness is rampant among vets. Medical and mental care is delayed to vets; the VA is overwhelmed and GOP leaders keep denying relief to make the situation better. It was a GOP President and VP who sent them off to two major wars.  WTF?!)

* Enough clear, clean water and food for everyone. (It’s do-able, not a dream. Subscribe to Food Tank and World Vision to find out how.)

* Love. Love. Love.  Your enemies.  Until you do, you remain their victims.  (Read UNBROKEN for full exposure to this idea. If Louis could forgive everything that was done to him, you can, too.)

*Love trumps money. Even at Christmas. Especially at Christmas. Remember why we celebrate this day. It’s all about love!!!

What would  you add?
