Finished the Attorney’s Web Copy

September 10, 2014

This morning I emailed the copy to the Tacoma tax attorney I’m serving to have him review it. The copy-editing/enhancement/proofreading task took just a tad over three and a half hours. There were more than 4,000 words of copy to start with. There are less now but I’ve danced with every last word to make sure each one knows its place, its power, and its function: to convert visitors into callers!  I think he’s gonna love it. And since he’s the first attorney I’ve served, I’ll ask him for a recommendation/testimonial, too.

He’s the gentleman I told you about a while back. He insisted on using me even though I said he should hire a legal copywriter. He asked if I knew of a good one, and I said I didn’t. Several days later he called me back and said, “No, I want you. You’re a straight shooter. I trust you because you have my best interests in mind.”  So I took on the project after he promised me that he knew what is allowable on a legal website. He also said he’d pass the copy by the Bar Association. So I felt okay accepting the assignment.

He provided the content (talking points). My job was to edit and copy-enhance it so people would want to pick up the phone and arrange for a complimentary, confidential consultation with him if they’re having (or anticipate having) trouble with the IRS. I think the copy turned out very well.  On some of it, I had my doubts, but by the time I got done with it, even the problematic ones worked out well.

If he’s 100% happy as it is, the cost will be just $275. If he wants major tweaks (doubtful), it’ll be more. If he wants minuscule tweaks, that’s included in the price I quoted. He’s happy with the price. I can’t wait to hear if he’s equally happy with the copy! Every page is written to SEO key phrases, some of which he didn’t even use in his original copy, so I had to insert them organically. That took a little bit of doing, but it wasn’t onerous or I would have had to charge more; it would have taken more time.

I’m hoping to get the go ahead to edit and copy-enhance an existing white paper for John. I’m waiting to hear back on that now.
