EVER NEW PODCAST DEBUT WAS A SMASHING SUCCESS & GREAT FUN

January 15, 2022

The “EVER NEW” podcast debut this morning was a smashing success and great fun.

I was blessed with two co-hosts this time, and our live visitors (the ones who let us know where they were from) came from two continents and three countries (the US, Canada, and the UK).

Some of our test podcast regulars tried to get in but couldn’t because of phone or computer glitches, but there was a satisfying turnout anyway.

I expect the number of viewers/participants will rise as folks watch, like, and share the link during the next two weeks.  I have posted the debut podcast link to several Star Trek, westerns, and De Kelley sites to let more people watch the show and decide whether or not it’s something they want to keep watching.

The podcast will air every other Saturday from today (January 15) onward at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time

Today’s Co-Hosts

Teacher/actor Amy Ulen joined Hannah McCrane and me for the hour just as the show got underway, bringing insights and wisdom to the table to help keep the ball rolling. For those of you who watched the show and want to follow up with Amy (a lot of you will!), here are links to her Facebook page and website:

Hannah came prepared with questions to ask for the times when viewers weren’t actively commenting and interacting, so there was almost no empty air space during the show. I think about a third of the show focused on my friendship with DeForest Kelley this time. We talked a wee bit about his career (mostly in westerns), too.

You can watch the debut at the link below anytime.  (To quote Pavel Chekov: “NOW vould be a good time!”

If you like the debut, I hope you’ll share it with the Star Trek/De Kelley/animal lovers/and scrapbooking enthusiasts in your spheres of influence.  That’s how the show will grow — by word of mouth — since we have no advertising budget.

You can catch the earlier test episodes at the same URL if you eliminate the number at the end of the URL. Just scroll through the available podcasts and click on the EVER NEW ones.

Earlier Test Episodes are Still Available to View

In earlier episodes we covered a cornucopia of topics that weren’t on our active radar until they popped up as mutual interests of the co-hosts, so they’re more or a less a treasure trove of topics from volcanoes to lahars to meteor craters to trainsets to transgender journeys… you name it!

It was great to see folks attend who had been in on the earlier test podcasts. That means they considered even the tests worthy of their time, and they want more.  That’s terrific, because we plan to offer a lot more as the weeks and months pass!  Today was just a tiny taste of what promises to be a good time every time.

Today’s Podcast Visitors

Today’s podcast visitors included my Facebook friend Leah Charifson, author of the Sahaj series.  Spock fans probably know this series well. If you don’t, you should! (Internet search results: “Sahaj” was created by Leah Charifson (writing as Leslye Lilker), and appeared in the late-70’s fanzine series Idic. Sahaj is Spock’s son by a Vulcan ambassador, age about 10 when Madam Ambassador dies and Spock receives custody of the little hellion. He mostly lives with Sarek and Amanda while Daddy works. The series is currently being continued and is available on-line.)

Janet Wicks and Jane Stephens from the UK watched and listened.

Hannah’s mother (MotherofaStarTrekJunkie) and sister (iluvChristmas) watched, listened, and contributed comments and insights.

“Jano”(Jane-o) Karen Phillips let me know she was trying like the dickens to get on but failing, which was a shame because during the test podcasts she has been one of the commenters that help the show succeed.

Cookiesword, a stalwart from earlier tests, came along for the ride and contributed some good comments.

I missed Roger and Luis Noriega today but with any luck they’re on their way to the Meteor Crater in Arizona right now. (Roger promised Luis a January crater trip!)   Dan Madsen expressed interest but, unless he came in under a screen name, I didn’t see or hear from him.

There were some brand new viewers, too, who hadn’t been in on any of the test podcasts.  Their names escape me right now.  (I apologize!)  “JohnBart101” (screen name) appears to be a Kelley trivia ace. He’s very knowledgeable about De’s career. I hope to learn more about this visitor as the time goes by…

In Other News

Lisa and I have tickets to the 100th Birthday Betty White Celebration, which will happen even though dear Betty passed away on December 31st. Most of the show was taped before her passing, so I assume she’ll be in it some. We’ll probably need hankies.  We expected to laugh a lot when we got the tickets. Now I know there will be tears along with the laughter. But that’s okay, too.  I think she would be okay with that…

Since getting a Fitbit for Christmas, I started walking religiously, and have already walked 75 miles. I walked nine miles two days running recently. Yesterday I walked six miles by day’s end. I also rowed 500 times.  I feel very buff!  Today I’ve been a bum. I’ve only walked 3242 steps. and 1.42 miles. Got ten hours of sleep last night, too.

What else? I did a major aquarium cleaning this week, so my fish look like they’re swimming through crystal clear air again. They’re very happy campers. My baby plecos are about an inch long now and the mollies are just slightly smaller but with bigger tummies, because that’s normal for both species. I still have at least four ghost shrimp. (Ghost shrimp usually get eaten, but these ones have evaded that fate for over two months now, probably because they’re too big to eat anymore.)

My rats remain fine, fat and fun, as always. As do my cats and goats. “Caring for animals is how I roll. It’s in my heart, it’s in my soul.”  (I have a t-shirt that says that.)

I guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print for this time!
