April Fool’s Day

April 1, 2026

It’s April Fool’s Day, the day before Costa Rica pretty much closes up shop to honor Semana Santa (Holy Week).  I’m in like a bear, having traveled to Grecia twice this week (Monday and today)  to load up on groceries and cat (and anti-biting dog) supplies.

ATTENDED BLOOMS

Yesterday, I rode with Kathy Neckar and two other San Isidro-based ladies to the Bloom’s gathering in San Miguel. While there, I volunteered to handle the BLOOM’s Facebook page, since the current administrator needed to step down.

I won’t have many responsibilities, but will need to logon every day or so to see if anyone wants to join.  If they do, I will need to send them a link to fill out some details to return to me before I can approve them as members. It’s a women’s expat/immigration group.

Diane Cooner says she’ll send me the details within the next few days after she gets unburied from a number of other priorities. She is a webmaster (WM) for a number of organizations and she creates gorgeous, one-of-a-kind blouses, shirts, skirts and other items when she isn’t working as a WM, attending rallies, and taking care of her household and dogs, so she has her hands full.

Today I Traveled to Grecia Again

I reported on Monday that I went to Grecia for bloodwork and some groceries that day.

I went again today and was surprised when Kathy Neckar — who happened to be driving down the calle toward the feria as I was walking to the bus stop — stopped dead in the middle of the road when she spotted me and invited me to hop in if I was going to Grecia!  So I hopped in, rather than waiting any longer for the bus, and we chatted all the way to my drop off point. What a sweetheart!

After getting some more colones at the bank, I walked to Subway (of course!) and had a sandwich and limonada. From there, I went to my usual pet place to see if they had any anti-biting dog spray. They didn’t.

So I walked to Planet Exo to see if they had some. They had a topical spray that deters dogs and cats from furniture, so I got some of that as an interim solution.

They are going to try to order some citronella-based spray in a can that is bear-spray like, so it will shoot out toward an incoming aggressive dog. If they can’t get it in, I know of another place that has it, but it wasn’t within easy walking distance of where I was today in Grecia, so I didn’t go there.

At Mercado Municipial, I bought some veggies and papas (potatoes) so I can make another crockpot chicken in the next day or so. I’m thawing the boneless, skinless chicken in the fridge today and tomorrow.

Lisa and I will Reconnect Later Today

When Lisa gets back from her rounds today, we’re going to connect on WhatsApp for a while. That will be fun. I’m charging the phone right now so it won’t die mid-chat, in case we end up visiting for an hour or more.

I think this is the first time we’ve connected (live, virtually) since she flew home on February 20th, so it’s high time we do that again! Five plus weeks is too long!

I don’t have any plans for Semana Santa. I will probably just walk every morning and veg the rest of the time. Sounds like a plan!

That’s all for this time. Nothing exciting, and no pix you’d be interested in.  Took a bunch of pix at the Bloom’s gathering, but no selfies, so you wouldn’t recognize anybody, so I won’t share them here.  I’ll share them on the Bloom’s FB page, probably, when I get access to it.

Have a great day!
