Charli’s Vet Appointment

August 25, 2025

I have been outside with Charli most of the day until just about a half hour ago (1:30 pm Pacific Time), when it got too hot (82 degrees F) to do that since I’m presently on heat-sensitive antibiotics.

Her vet appointment is this afternoon. I didn’t want to have to sequester her inside all day, nor did I want her to disappear on me the moment she heard a strange vehicle pull into the driveway (the vet’s arrival), so I stayed out with her all morning.

We mostly vegged, but I got some really cute images of her.

Here’s one of the best:

I’ll add to this after the appointment.

Post-Appointment Report

Dr. Byrd and her husband arrived promptly and got Charli squared away in under fifteen minutes.  She’s back outside now, none the worse for wear.

She has all required shots, she was treated for parasites as required by Costa Rica, and she has a new microchip that ties her to my email address and to Dr. Byrd so if she gets lost and found by someone else, they can reach out to us and get her back to me.  Hurray!

I also will have a prescription of gabapentin to administer to her the night before we fly and then again just before we leave for the airport.  Dr. Byrd says that should do the job to keep her resting and sleeping the entire way. Another hurray!

And my paperwork should be back before the Labor Day weekend. If I don’t get virtual copies from Dr. Byrd by Thursday night, I’m supposed to reach out to her so she can light a fire.

Charli was freaked, but they handled her gently and expertly, so that was good

I stayed in the room to coo at her and to let her know that everything would be okay.
