I just got my Covid booster and a pneumonia prevention vaccine.
Two weeks before the flight, I need to call back and see if they have the updated 2025 flu vaccine available; they don’t have it yet.
I want to be super boosted when I get on the plane, because those things are flying petri dishes. Nearly everyone I know who has flown recently has come down with Covid. That certainly wouldn’t be my first choice of “adventures” upon arrival in Costa Rica! It can really kick your butt and it is still killing people, so it’s nothing to sniff at!
Travel and Medical Care Insurance
My insurance broker says my present Original Medicare plan (N) allows for up to $50k in foreign/international medical care, which is awesome, but she’s also looking into travel insurance and additional coverage for me, just to see what’s available at a decent price. If I can get that, I can drop my Part B Medicare supplement plan right away instead of in January if she finds me a Medicare Advantage plan that works in CR (some MA plans do) for less than my present Part B plan. She’s just the best. She’s a bulldog when it comes to ferreting out the best insurance options for her clients. Her name is Katheryn Evans and she’s in Puyallup at 1416 East Main. Her phone number is (253) 861-2959. I highly recommend her. I don’t know if she can work virtually throughout the US and elsewhere, but if she can, please consider her as your “insurance ferret.” She’s just amazing!
My Home Looks Soooo Empty Now…
My home looks almost like a picture-free hotel room now. In my bedroom, I have a full size bed, an antique dresser, and a retro entertainment center, all three of which need to find new homes asap! In the living room, I have a cat-scratched recliner (which will be pitched), another over-stuffed recliner (which has already been adopted by someone; I just have to find a way to get it to him), the credenza Dad built (which needs a new home), and a futon, which my older sister wants.
In the den, I have a desk Dad built me (I’m hoping to find a loving home for it soon!), a cabinet which my niece wants, and two small cubbyhole pieces of furniture that my niece will probably want, too. If not, they will be put up for sale this weekend. Plus this desktop monitor, CPU and keyboard I’m using at the moment (until the info on it gets transferred — this week sometime — to the laptop I bought), and my 55-gallon aquarium, all of which will be is up for sale this weekend. (Yes, I’m having another weekend of garage sales before I donate the rest.)
My luggage is all packed (and is within the 50 pound weight limits, hurray!) except for one small lamp with USB charging ports in it, my bathroom scale and footstool, my toothcare items, my favorite blanket (if it will fit in my suitcase), and the clothes I’ll be wearing between now and flight time. Lisa will take my printer.

I’m running out of things to do, which both excites and unnerves me. Having something to do every day keeps my mind occupied so I don’t start imagining worst case scenarios: what if Charli freaks out, despite the tranquilizers she’ll be getting? What will it be like without a vehicle for the first time in over 50 years? How soon will I be given a key upon arrival so I won’t feel like a homeless person? Can I get someone in CR to buy cat food and cat litter ahead of time so Charli will have her necessities upon arrival? What if nobody down there ends up liking or even tolerating me? (See how insane I can get?!)
My mind loves to think. (Our minds are designed to do that, you know!) Sometimes it runs out of positive things to think about and goes to the Kobayashi Maru side (to “no win” scenarios). Which is insane. So I stay as busy as I can so I sleep at night and don’t go galivanting to the dark side of the equation…
Good for me. The light side is where I want to be, every day, all day.
