I’m up to Volume 262 in my journl preservation project as of 6:15 this morning, when my smartphone alerted me that it needed a recharge. So that’s where I’ll remain for at least a couple hours while it powers up again.
I was able to preserve twelve additional volumes in just under four hours. That’s a pretty good clip, since most of them exceeded 75 pages by at least 15%. Only had a couple of”failure to export” messages during the entire time, and was able to fix those within moments each time. The stack of journals I preserved just this morning is 2/3 the size of the stack that remains, so I will be able to preserve the balance this morning, evening and tomorrow as long as the export process continues to work well.
It will be a relief to finish them because then I’ll know they will be preserved in a way that can’t be excised. I’ll put them on thumb drives and give copies to several people so they will always be available in case I never get around to writing the autobiography I plan to write when I get to Costa Rica. Costa Rica may have me so in its thrall that all I’ll want to do is sit and look at its natural beauty and bounty for the rest of my days. Ya just never know!

One of my longest living friends/mentors has entered hospice care in her home and isn’t expected to linger much longer. She is nearly 103 years old. Her name is Mary Jane Cooper and you have read about her in previous blog post entries. I believe I covered her 100th birthday celebration a couple years ago here. She is a delightful woman with an amazing history and I will miss her terribly. The only “good” thing about her passing this year is that I will be able to attend her memorial service and perhaps be able to say a few words about her impact on my life to her friends and family who will be there. I’d hate to be in Costa Rica when she passes.
Glad News!
King’s Books will feature me as a local author this spring or summer sometime thanks to an email that Jeff Richardson (who interviewed me last week on his podcast) sent to sweetpea at King’s Books. I have already received confirmation of this, so I will be able to sell some (hopefully MANY!) of my remaining stack of books at that event.
I have been worrying about what to do with them if they don’t sell: I certainly can’t take them all with me! And I have them all on Kindle so I don’t need to take of the print versions with me.
I will probably donate all remaining copies to local libraries that will accept them. And of course I’ll leave copies at King’s Books as a thank you for featuring me in my last (?) appearance (that I know of at this time) in the Pacific NW before I migrate to Central America this fall. Anyone who buys a book at the King’s Books event will also get a free copy of SERVAL SON since I have DOZENS of copies of that title. (What was I thinking? Maybe I should send 15 copies to Shambala, too…)
Guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print for this time. Carry on!
