This is the Year of the Water Rabbit. I was born during an earlier Year of the rabbit and my astrological sign is Pisces, so this is apparently “my year”!
However!
However!
Heidi and I just had lunch at Yen Ching the other day. The server there, Chin, who is not a superstitious fellow, said he read a lot about the various Years of the (fill in the blank with rat, tiger, etc., whichever year you were born in!) and whenever it’s YOUR year, you should wear some red all the time to ward off negative influences.
So, I have dutifully ordered a few fun red items to wear (more or less inconspicuously) during 2023. I’m not superstitious, either, but I like to abide by indigenous peoples’ insights, whether they are deemed superstitious or not.
I avoid walking under ladders. Black cats don’t bother me a bit. When I see a crack in the sidewalk, I do my best not to break my mother’s back…
It’s fun to abide by earlier notions, as long as they aren’t harmful to other life forms. So, I bought some inexpensive red things. Here they are:
So, I’m “covered” against negative forces and spirits who recognize this as MY year and may try to thwart me.
QAPLA!
