The internet and social media have blown up this morning with the news that the Supreme Court is planning to overturn Roe V. Wade, the landmark abortion rights decision that has been the law of the land since I was 23 years old.
I have never had an abortion, but I have a dog in this fight because I have relatives and several friends who have had them.
I also remember what it was like before Roe v Wade was the law of the land. Abortions still happened. They just killed a lot of women who were desperate not to remain pregnant.
And there were a great many more ABUSED AND UNWANTED CHILDREN because abortion wasn’t legal or affordable for most people.
For those of you who believe life begins at conception, I respect your opinion. But I do NOT believe life begins at conception, nor do others who have had abortions, and your opinion on the matter is entirely moot. It isn’t your body or your future at stake.
Right wing religious nuts are relegating women back to the days of being “owned” by someone else. If bodily autonomy is not sacrosanct, then what is?
