WOO HOO! We Got Phil Weyland for Our Final (August 5th) EVER NEW Podcast

July 20, 2023

We got Phil Weyland for our final (August 5th) EVER NEW podcast.  Hannah will interview him this weekend and she’ll be sharing the result on August 5th. It promises to be really something. I’m very much looking forward to it.  Click on the link above to read Phil’s IMDB credits.

This one’s for YOU, Helen Schofield!  Phil with LQ Jones!

Hannah will be limiting questions to his relationship with De and Carolyn, for the most part, but Phil is available for additional interviews on other aspects of his career, for anyone else interested in interviewing him. Just know, going in, that he limits his interviews to phone (off-screen) interviews.

WHY EVER NEW IS ENDING (AS A REGULAR PODCAST)

I decided to pull the plug on EVER NEW as far as having it as often as we have been. My original reason for starting it was that I was afraid to do live podcasts, and I wanted to jump that hurdle and become comfortable doing them. I accomplished that within the first ten shows, and for quite a while after that, I enjoyed doing them every two weeks.

But as the months (and years) passed, I got to feeling we had covered the main topic quite thoroughly — my 30-year friendship with Carolyn and DeForest Kelley — and that I had read enough excerpts from my various Kelley (and other) books to give listeners/viewers plenty of encouragement to buy them if they wanted to know more about the Kelleys or my other interests —  animals, LGBTQIA+ topics, and more — so the rationale for keeping the show going in the same vein has pretty much been exhausted.

This doesn’t mean I will stop doing podcasts entirely. It just means that the reasons for doing this particular one appear to have been exhausted. I didn’t want to turn it into “De story hour” with me reading excerpts every time, so it’s time to move on.   I don’t know if the same listeners/viewers will be interested in tagging along when I address other topics, but whenever I do, I will certainly reach out to our followers to let you know, so you can join us if the topics intrigue you.

But for the time being, I am going on hiatus and just enjoying the rest of the summer. I will also let you know when I get invited to appear as an inerviewee on other people’s podcasts or radio shows. You haven’t heard the last of me (unless I croak unexpectedly!). There will just be less of me than some of you have become used to. I will be happy to video IM with you on Facebook if you experience withdrawal symptoms (hee hee hee!!!), so don’t be shy about reaching out if that happens.  I already video IM with several of you frequently, so we’ll keep doing that, for sure!

THANK YOUS IN ABUNDANCE

I want to thank Hannah McCrane for being my co-host, strong right arm, encourager and (now and forever!) fast friend during this journey. You have been a true blessing to me, as has your entire family.  I know you want to make radio your career, and I know you can make that happen if you do for yourself what you have done for me these past two years. You have the chops, the training, and the official papers to succeed, and I know  you will. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other every day, in every way you can, and it will happen! I feel confident about that and look forward to being in the cheering section as you win awards for excellence in the future.

I also want to thank Amy Ulen for joining us so many times to regale us with stories about your TREK times. Every time you appeared, the show glowed!  You are a treasure, as all of your former students can attest.

Thanks, too, to the other special guests we featured on the show: Dan Madsen, Larry Nemecek, Michelle Campbell, Michael Okuda, Ross Trowbridge, Marc B. Lee, Abbie McCrane, Helen Schofield, and — who am I missing?  I know I’m missing somebody!  I will add your name as soon as my brain kicks in again, or you remind me!I’m sorry we missed our chance to interview you, T. Rick Jones, but I know you and I will be collaborating in other ways so I’ll make it up to you somehow!

And great thanks to the viewers/listeners who commented so often during the podcasts, including Janet Wicks, John Bowersox, Helen Schofield, Ross Trowbridge, Tia in Russia, Jano Phillips, etc. Your questions and comments were so often highlights of each podcast.

WONDERING WHAT YOU MISSED?

A final thanks to Roger Noriega for the use of his platform (NDB Media) and to Michael Day for keeping past podcasts available for viewers/listeners who didn’t find out about the show until well after it started.

And that, as they say in show biz, is a wrap!
