While I’m in New Zealand …

March 1, 2024

While Lisa and I are in New Zealand, I don’t know if there will be time to blog, or even if I’ll have access to a device so I can, but I will be posting images to Facebook from  time to time so you can follow our doings there.

I will be taking a small notebook so I can jot down ideas to blog about when I get back.

HOLDING DOWN THE FORT WHILE I’M AWAY…

Jackie and her son and daughter-in-law will be holding down the fort here at home, including taking care of the critters I share my life with: aquarium, cats, hens, goats. (I reciprocate whenever they take trips by watching their critters here at Jackie’s and my duplex-like home.)

My only “withdrawal symptoms” while I’m away will be my inability to write as much as I usually do. But with everything we have planned, I should be perfectly satisfied anyway. After all, I’m going to be “on vacation.”

The only wrinkle is that I’ve created a life I don’t ever need a vacation from, so I will need to develop some additional habits: people-pleasing  among them, which I gave up for Lent decades ago and loved so much that I kept right on not doing it (consciously) anymore! LOL!

Will people-pleasing survive the trip?  Probably not! But it will be fun to see if I can stay in party mode/convention mode during all (or most) of my waking hours for a full two weeks!  It sounds like a fun challenge.

I’ve managed to do it for entire weekends at StarTrek conventions in the distant past, but I’m out of practice, for sure!  Helen survived me two years ago when she visited here, so I reckon she can do it again, since we always take nana naps.

Helen introduced me to nana naps, and it’s one new custom I have kept religiously since then: mid-afternoon (and sometimes late morning) naps. The only difference between Helen and me (and Hannah and me, when she visited) is that when I take a nana nap, I go down like a dead horse.  They usually only stay down an hour or so!  I crash!

I’ve never had a two week vacation, ever.  So this will be a novel experience for me.

I’m very eager to get on those two jet planes that will take my rusty butt to Kiwi and Weta and Helen and Debbie-Land, in case you can’t tell!

I feel like a race horse held back by a starting gate. Ready to burst out and get underway!

Alas… departure date is still almost week away!  My 73rd natal date arrives before I leave. Gotta get that out of the way before I head Down Under!
