I agreed to speak before a group in Auburn tomorrow but the meeting has been postponed, so I’m off the hook for now. This means I can sleep tonight! The night before a presentation, I don’t always sleep well enough, and I was worried about that this time because I drank a (rare) Dr. Pepper at dinner tonight so I’ll probably be up until 1 a.m. or later. Colas wire me for hours!
Today I walked five miles before deciding to drive to Orting to ride my bicycle for another 15 miles, so I’ve certainly over-extended today when it comes to exercise! The weather has been sensational, so I want to take advantage of it every opportunity I get. Spring, summer and fall don’t last long enough around here in the Pacific NW, so I have to strike while the iron’s hot.
My exercise of choice is bicycling. I love it! Last summer I biked more than 700 miles over four months; lost about ten pounds. (Losing weight is next to impossible for me. Too much yo-yo dieting all my life–my metabolism is shot, so even extraordinary feats earn very little reward. I no longer exercise to lose weight; I do it because I love doing it! If I did it to lose weight, I would get frustrated and quit!)
My aunt and I were both told that our metabolisms were/are so sluggish that we can maintain ourselves as 50% overweight on 750 calories a day. My doc in Las Vegas 35 years ago said if I wanted to lose weight reliably I could do so only by eating fewer than 500 calories per day. Yeah, like that’s gonna happen! (Not a typo: 500 calories per day!) Most so-called “extreme” diets are 1200 calories a day for small-boned women. I’m a big-boned woman with broad shoulders and muscles.
Oh, well!
