Went to Grecia with Topher Benum Today

September 6, 2025

Topher Benum and I took Ubers to and from Grecia this morning and afternoon. I was able to get a CR SIM card and a portable CR phone number. For those who need it, the number is Country Code 506 6017 1951. I don’t think my US phone number works anymore, but who knows?

We had the Uber driver drop us at Central Park in midtown Grecia, which is just across a lane from the famous metal church and Grecia landmark.  From there, we walked to a hotel that Topher wanted to check out with an eye toward moving to it on Tuesday. That was about an eight block walk in warm, humid weather. But I thought ahead and had brought wet neckerchiefs, wet hats and two personal fans, plus we both carried containers of drinking water, so we did fine.

By the time we came back across the street from the park, it had cooled considerably and thunderstorm clouds were closing in fast, so we ducked into Cafe Delicias for a leisurely bite to eat and some fun and  serious conversation.

Topher helped me set up the Uber app so I could call for the ride home to Villas Escondidas and see how it worked. (He had called for the ride in to Grecia.)  The driver we got for the return trip was conversant in English, so we chatted a lot more on the way back with him than we did on the way in with the other driver, who didn’t speak much English. Topher chatted him up in Spanish. I understood most of what they said but wouldn’t have been able to articulate it as well.

I should have taken more pictures than I did, but I will have additional chances in the near future, so fear not!  You haven’t seen the last of Grecia!

I don’t know why these images show up so dark on this blog. They don’t look that way on my phone. I send the pix from my phone to Facebook and then download them from there, because I can’t figure out how to send them to my pix file direct.

You can see in the above pic that the sky was about to dump a lot of rain on us!
