Upwork is Trying to Get Me to Use AI to “Increase My Productivity”

November 28, 2023

Upwork is trying to get me to use AI to “increase my productivity.”

No way will I EVER treat my clients the way AI bots treat me

I do not play well with bots. Having to find ways to bypass AI bots when I need human help drives me right straight up the wall.

I will never treat my clients like that.  If it costs me “productivity” to treat them personally, one-to-one, so be it.  I’m semi-retired. I don’t need so much additional income that I have to resort to AI bots to do business.

TEMPLATES

I have created a few different successful (converting) templates for my cover letters and quotes. I have to tweak them just a little each time to make them work for any project I want to pursue on Upwork. That’s as “high-tech” as I ever intend to get when interacting with potential clients. Everything after that first intro is one-to-one.

I built cover letter/quote templates (separate ones for writing and editing) because Upwork is a numbers game. I have to put out a lot of quotes to land any, so making the first step as fast and efficient as possible was all I really needed to do to make Upwork work for me.

It’s still a damn’ slog to find clients on that platform who are willing to pay what excellent copywriting is worth, but they’re out there, and I have learned how to spot them. It takes hours of sifting and sorting, but I get enough of them to make the excruciating process pay off. I’ve been on the platform since 2008 when it was Elance, so I’m (usually) a Top-Rated provider so prospective clients come to me at times without me needing to send a quote. And my profile page at Upwork sells my services ably.

I’m very old school when it comes to customer service

I need to be available to my clients and prospective clients. If I don’t communicate with them one-to-one, how will they ever discover that I can communicate with their clients and customers well enough to convert them from browers into buyers?

Yeah. AI sucks when it comes to personal communication.  I’ve already covered my thoughts on that in another post, so I won’t belabor it here.

If you want a writer who won’t try to AI AI SNOW you, let’s chat!
