Update on Patches

April 4, 2021

I reckon it’s time to post an update on Patches, my geriatric cat who had radioactive iodine treatment in January to destroy her overactive thyroid.

She is doing well. She looks like an entirely different cat, bulk-wise. She’s a chunky monkey now. Her head feels twice the size it was before she had the treatment. She has filled out (and spilled out) from a scrawny-looking starved kitty to a well-fed beauty.  She is no longer breathing hard and her heartbeat is normal.

She has her second follow-up appointment in early May. At her first appointment, her bloodwork came back a little wocka wocka in a couple of places, but the vet assured me that’s normal and should normalize between then and when he sees her again in May. She is a little hypothyroid now (as opposed to hyperthyroid), which is why she’s blowing her coat (losing a lot of hair) and sleeping more, but when she’s awake, she’s alert, reactive, responsive and very affectionate with me.

Thank you again to all who donated to this campaign to help put her in tip top shape again. I will never forget your kindness.
