I know it’s unpleasant and unsightly to witness, but those noises you’re hearing (“stolen election,” “millions of illegal votes,” “greatest witch hunt in history” , “I did everything right and they indicted me,”etc.) and the scenes you’ve been witnessing for far too long (Ferguson, Charlottesville, January 6th, 2021 etc. ad nauseum) are the merely the death throes of a dying Male White Supremacist ideology.

In other words, white male supremacists are going down like wounded animals — thrashing, biting, kicking and clawing — but they’re going down.

So, take a bow because you and I have brought them to this moment in history. There are many more of us than there are of them, and our votes still matter. Our votes still tell them NO. That’s why they’re doing their utmost to keep the rest of us away from the polls.  They know they’re in the minority and that all we have to do is show up on voting day and say YES to the future and NO to the past.

YES to a future that includes and celebrates everyone, NO to a future that leaves male white supremecists, oligarchs, and plutocrats (most of them white males) in the catbird seats.

Yes, it’s ugly, and uncomfortable and frightening to watch, but it’s just a matter of time before they find themselves outnumbered by compassionate,  wise and diverse people of goodwill: men, women, theydies and gentlethems — red, yellow, black, brown and white — who realize that the United States and its governing bodies belong to all of its residents and should serve  all of them without preference or prejudice.  Every need is a legitimate need. No one has more right to humane teatment and services than any other individual. That includes education, health care, child care, the judicial system, and all the rest.

Ceding exclusive control over the affairs of a nation is painful. These people are smarting. They’re angry. Some of them are dangerous in the same way wounded animals are dangerous: they will use all means at their disposal to keep the end from happening.

But happen it will.  And that’s the good news.

Persist. Stay the course. You are the ones standing on the right side of history. Future history books will proclaim you courageous, stalwart, and more than sunshine patriots.  You stepped in and stood up at a crucial time in our nation when sitting things (and votes) out might have been easier. But had you done that, this democratic republic would have ended up in tatters and beyond recognizable for the foreseeable future, and possibly forever. Germany recovered from the Nazis, but not without immense pain and soul-searching for not having stood up and protested mightily when so many of their citizens (Jewish, gypsies, mentally/physically challenged folks, LGBTQIA+ individuals and more) started disappearing off the streets.

We are at an inflection point.  Whose death throes do you want to hear — theirs, or your own?

If theirs ARE your own, perhaps it’s time to take a look inward to try to decide how you reached the conclusions you have about other fellow citizens and sojourners. That would be the logical place to begin…
