The Waiting Game

August 7, 2025

I hate waiting. (Not as a general rule. Just right now.)

I’m ready to go, to fly away — mentally, emotionally, physically, financially.

But flying away is still four weeks away.

Four more weeks is going to feel like an eternity, waiting to get on the plane…

My Future Awaits 3,373 Miles from Here

Eight weeks from now, I will be finding my footing in Costa Rica. The fingerprinting and immigration appointments will be two weeks’ in the past and I’ll be able to focus on finding a local clinic that will test my INR level, which will be due about then.

After that (or perhaps before), I will be looking for a rental that suits my needs and is within my desired budget.  Since it’s the low/rainy season there, I should be able to snag something at a lower price than I would have been able to had I moved during the high/tourist season. That’s what the realtor and I am hoping.

And I may have another option: to contribute hours of handyman duties in exchange for a rental in San Ramon, if that option is still available.  I should know that by the end of the first four weeks at Villas Escondidas.

So, as you can see, I’m already anticipating future to-do’s while I’m mired here waiting for four more weeks to go by.

I can make additional appointments for farewell get togethers…go kayaking…fill up the days with other pleasantries…

But my head is focused on the future, not on the now.

The now is dicey politically. I don’t feel safe, given the current regime, even though I’m in a blue state with great advocates in high offices here.

I want to go so I can take full breaths again and not have to worry about that.  Every other concern I’ll have in the new place will be manageable.  I have a compassionate, conscientious team to help me there.
