The Democratic National Convention Has Been Ahhhhhsome!

August 21, 2024

What a difference there has been between the GOP and DEM conventions.

The GOP was a gathering of grievance, toxic masculinity, and lies. (Hulk Hogan. Really?!!!) ‘Nuf said. I don’t even want to revisit it more broadly than I just have. It left me feeling like I needed a good, long shower to wash the toxic crap from my skin!

The DEM convention has been a gathering filled with joy, love, compassion, a series of great speakers (DEM and GOP), and facts. And on the rare occasion when DJT is mentioned, it’s always fact-based, much of it showing actual footage of him saying the disgusting things he says at rallies and elsewhere, including one of the very few true sentiments he has ever uttered: “I don’t care about you. I just care about your vote.”

There have been too many great speeches to enumerate them all, but among my favorites have been (so far)  Michelle Obama, Doug Emhoff (Kamala’s husband), Jill and Ashley Biden, Joe Biden, Jasmine Crockett, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and the young ladies and women whose reproductive crises were shared. I’m sure I’m forgetting one, two or three others that brought me to tears or cheers. Barack Obama’s speech was fine but not as fine as Michelle’s; that would be an impossibility.

I’m very much looking forward to the final two days of the convention. Tonight Tim Walz speaks and accepts his nomination. Bill Clinton also speaks.

Tomorrow Kamala speaks and accepts her nomination.

And the next day we all get back to work  to make sure Harris/Walz become our next President and Vice President.

Oh, what a glorious occasion that will be: the dawn of a bright new day in America.
