Ten Years and Counting…

January 16, 2017

January 2nd 2017 marked the ten year anniversary of my career as a professional copywriter.  It seems longer ago than that to me– a lot longer. But ten years is a big milestone: most entrepreneurs don’t make it that long before throwing in the towel.

I could have. I sure felt like it a lot of times. But I’m glad I stuck with it because it’s easier now. My reputation is well-established and I have clients who come back to me every time they need a copy or content writer or someone to gussy up what they’ve written. I make enough to be happy and work enough to feel useful. I also get Social Security and a small pension now so I’m not as likely to accept projects that don’t “float my boat” as I was in the past. So I get to work on favorite projects with favorite people 100% of the time. How cool is that?

I want to thank my clients, past and present, especially those who have become my megaphones and touted my expertise to the moon and back in an effort to keep me as busy as I want to be these days. Although I’m segueing these days from copywriter to author and features writer with all deliberate speed, I still love writing sales copy on occasion. It was while learning to write sales copy that I learned how to hook readers and write stuff that is un-put-down-able. There is no substitute for riveting writing. If you’re writing isn’t riveting these days, no one is going to read it unless they have to.  And that’s no fun at all for the writer or the reader.

I’ve been blessed with a passion for stringing words together in the most wonderful ways I can do it. It makes my work a game at this end.  It’s FUN!

I hope you can tell whenever you read it!

Ten years as a copywriter, 48 years (January 1969) as a published writer. My dream/goal came true: to make a living as a writer!
