Yay — it’s Subway Day with my neighbor. We like to do this every week, because we’re both Subway lovers and his wife isn’t (allergic to gluten). So she lets me go with him on the bus. How cool is that? (His wife is among my five closest friends here in Costa Rica.)
Yesterday Morning I Walked to Three Corners
… to get eggs, ice cream and cake. When I got back, I made a pork chop and eggs breakfast. I stayed in my undershorts all day after getting home because it got warmer than 80 degrees fast with 65% humidity, so that made it feel like 95, which was too much variety for me! I stayed comfy between two fans all day.
Read Jill Biden’s new book in one sitting, which is fabulous.
It was a real treat and torment to get inside her mind and accompany her through her life. She and Joe Biden survived so many tragedies and heartaches, but they never lost sight of what they were here to do: make life better for as many people as they could for literal decades.
Even if you don’t agree with many of Biden’s policies (I certainly didn’t agree with all of them), the book is a treasure. There’s nothing like walking in another person’s shoes and seeing life and details in the way they did and do. It makes it all understandable; you can see why and how each difficult decision was reached, and what they endured as a much-maligned couple.
It is light years away from a poor-me memoir: it’s filled with joy, for the most part, joy and wonder that two (what she calls) ordinary people were able to do so many extraordinary things.
My takeaway/lasting impression is that I love and respect them even more after reading this, and I have always loved and respected them.
I Need to Scale Back
…on my outings/trips to Grecia, and put less stuff on my Subway sandwiches. I can bring the cost to under 4000 colones (a little over $9 USD) just buy foregoing bacon and avocado and bringing my own drink. I will probably skip the feria and lunch with my friends afterward, too, except for maybe once a month. That all adds up, and until the USD recovers from the dip it’s in, I need to be more conscious of cost outlays.
Jon Says Francisco is Recovering from Dengue Fever
…and may be at the feria in Friday. He has been ill for three weeks. Would LOVE to see and hug him and Jon again so I may go this week and then skip it for the rest of the month. I don’t need to get anything there, but I do want to see Francisco and Jon. They are dear friends and my lifeline down here. I would feel utterly bereft without them in my life. We need to hold our friends close. I certainly do. They’re all I have anymore!
Jon Also Said That One of His Interviewers Was a No-Show on Monday
His second 3rd year English student didn’t arrive with the other one (they were scheduled to arrive together) and he hasn’t heard from them to reschedule. The deadline for the assignment is June 22nd so there is still time, as long as Jon’s available sometime between now and then. If he isn’t, I can do another interview, and Mauricio knows that.
Lisa Got My Blogsite a New Image App
…so I’m able to insert photos again, which I did for my earlier posts. I added images of Estefany, Cristopher, and Ashley to their respective posts yesterday, so if you haven’t gone back to see them, now’s the time! ENJOY!
Tummy Says NO to Most Dense Meats These Days
When I eat meat other than chicken these days, I nearly always get a brief but uncomfortable belly ache. My system is no longer used to handling it, since I eat it so seldom down here.
Ground hamburger is fine, but pork and beef steaks do me in for a few brief, uncomfortable minutes not long after I eat them.
I know that babies have a tough time transitioning from milk, fruit and vegetable to meats. Meat isn’t natural for us (hency our dentition!) so I’m not stressing over this change. I get my protein via beans, eggs and fish these days, and have ever since moving here. As long as I stay away from dense meats, I feel like a million bucks!
Gotta Get Ready to Catch the Bus in a Few Minutes
I’ve already walked on the back patio for 4068 steps this morning, so will have no problem reaching 7500 steps by the end of the day. It’s probably 500 steps to and from where the bus stops here near my place, and my neighbor and I will be walking to my bank, to Subway, and then down to Mercado Municipal to catch the bus back aftwerward. I’ll easily put in another 3K steps today just going to Grecia. If not, there’s always the back patio again! Lots of birds are out there, bathing and flying around, and the butterflies are abundant again, so there’s no end of pretty things to look at out there!
More when I get back, possibly… Who knows? We’ll see!
