Shock and Sadness Replaced by Joy and Hope

July 22, 2024

Yesterday’s shock and sadness over President Joe Biden’s standing down from running for reelection have been superceded by joy and hope as I imagine an America on the cusp of equal rights and justice for all.

In Kamala Harris, we have an actual (former) prosecutor who can take on convicted felon/convicted rapist Donald Trump and Project 2025/Agenda 47/the GOP platform with an energy, grit and determination unmatched in most Democratic office holders.  Kamala Harris has a spine, an empathetic heart, and the ability to express both in unforgettable ways.

She has been a fervent, eloquent advocate for rape victims, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ people, and many other marginalized Americans.  She is fierce, fired up, and ready to rumble unapologetically. She can take her gloves off when she gets into the ring with Trump and his selected VP every time they take a shot at her.  And she was for Medicare for All when she ran the first time. She’s definitely progressive , as “progressive” is defined in this country. She’d probably be considered moderately right in Europe!

If Wishes Were Fishes…

I’d love to see Kamala choose Gretchen Whitmer as her running mate. That would have the two sexist misogynists on the other ticket c——g their pants.

Alas, she will likely choose someone “safer” — a white male from a swing state instead of Whitmer (who is from a swing state, too) — even though white male presidential contenders never lost a single second soul-searching before choosing another white male as their running mate throughout our history right up until 2008 when Barack Obama won the nomination. And he picked (to our everlasting benefit) Joe Biden as his running mate.

But it would be a hoot to watch Kamala and Gretchen tear the opposition a new anal opening. (I know, I know: politics isn’t supposed to be an entertainment event, but since Trump likes to play it that way, these two ladies could certainly give him and Vance –and us — a helluva show.)
