Record-Breaking Heat Wave Span .. and More!

July 29, 2022

Today we’re expected to break the record for the consecutive number of days above 90 degrees, and it ain’t over yet!   Tomorrow it’s supposed to reach 93 and Sunday 91.

So, I’m on critter patrol all day long. I have a misting system set up for my outdoor critters (livestock) and box fans blowing into sheds so the air inside them keeps moving. The goat shed outer area is wetted, so the ground there remains cool.  The goats spend a lot of time there during the hottest part of each day. And they aren’t acting over-heated, so what I’m doing is working.   I make sure the water sources stay cool, too.

ONE VISIT POSTPONED, ANOTHER ON THE HORIZON

Because the heat is sticking around longer than anticipated, my niece and grand nephew won’t be visiting this Sunday. We had planned to go to the newly renovated Owen Beach to spend some time there, but none of us want to do that in scorching heat, so we’re putting it off to sometime in August, most likely before the 18th when Helen Scofield arrives from New Zealand to spend a couple weeks with me (and with Lisa, as much as she can get away to do stuff with us).   We have a reservation to drive through and visit Northwest Trek while Helen is here, and we also plan to visit Pike Place Market during a weekday.

WALKING DAILY

I’ve been walking daily, early in the morning before the heat gets bad, so I rack up more than 10K steps every day.  I’m really enjoying it.

Because Lisa works six days a week, we haven’t been able to get up to Orting or to Lake Waughop to ride bikes on decent days, so I’ve taken up walking as an alternate exercise.

I guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print for this time!

STAY COOL ANY WAY YOU CAN, PACIFIC NW FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!
