Political Folks to Follow in 2025

November 21, 2024

I’m not going to be posting political stuff anymore here or on other social media, for my own mental health and sanity, and the only two sources that I suggest you subscribe to are Heather Cox Richardson’s Letters from an American and Robert Reich’s and Heather Lofthouse’s Saturday Coffee Klatch. These are both reputable people with well-regarded backgrounds on the topics they cover.

Another option is MeidasTouch with the Meiselas brothers and their large array of professionals who have other shows on their network. Pick and choose the ones that resonate with you most.  There are legal professionals, and even a fun political song writer!

But otherwise, don’t get sucked into doomscrolling. These folks offer ways to actively do something about what we see happening in America today, so they’re great for people who want to get involved in ways that work.  Indivisible in your hometown does this, too.

I’m focusing on living my life right now… recouping, recovering, making plans to visit — and eventually move to — Costa Rica, hopefully within two years — maybe even next year if my trip there confirms my love of the place (from afar). I’ve been looking at relocating for years, and CR is my #1, and it’s affordable (still) for me. So, that’s my tentative plan.

I’m going to be downsizing like mad, with garage sales every weekend, until all I have left to take with me are my cat Charli (I don’t think I’ll have Patches for much longer; she’s over 20 and not doing real great), a few sentimental photos for my walls, and whatever I can pack into a few suitcases, plus a laptop and perhaps a printer, unless shipping those is wildly expensive and it makes better sense to buy them there.

Gotta get away from the upcoming fascist government(as a trans man, I’ll be among the first to be targeted for removal by any means necessary following (or concurrent with) the “purge” of millions of  immirant workers and their families, legal and extra-legal. The mean-spiritedness that is ascendant right now and  the exorbitant living expenses just to survive at the most basic level makes this the ideal time to get outta Dodge while the getting is good.
