Poets of Yelmshire

“Poets of Yelmshire”–Yelm’s poetry group that usually gets together on the third Thursday of every month in the Triad Theater at 7 pm will be interviewed today by the Nisqually News. I’m a member of this poetry group and will be heading to Yelm pretty soon to make myself available to take part in the interview if the reporter chooses me. Not sure how it’s going to work but the poetry group gal said as many of us should show up as possible, so I’m going to.

I was there for last night’s poetry gathering.  There are some very talented people in the group. Not all of it is my cup of tea, but poetry is very subjective: I might like something that others don’t or think something is “meh” that others are wildly enthusiastic about. It doesn’t matter; everyone is soundly applauded.  One Japanese gentleman sings almost every time (nothing he has written, just songs he loves. Last night he sang Ave Maria and Hallelujah and they were both excellent.)

On June 25th Poets of Yelmshire will have a float in the Yelm Parade and members are invited to be on it and throw candy to the kids. I thought it might be fun to attach a short poem each piece of candy.  Don’t know how that would work …or if it’s even feasible…but it’s an idea!

Candy is sweet..

Want another treat?

The Poets of Yelmshire meet on the third Thursday of every month* at the Triad Theater at 7PM. Bring your favorite poem, write a poem, or just come enjoy the local talent.

One exception: The Poets of Yelmshire will meet on the second Thursday (June 11) next month because there will be a play at the Triad on the following Thursday.
