Ordered a New Whirlpool Fridge for $599 on Sale

February 5, 2024

My old Whirlpool fridge is giving up the ghost so tonight I went to Lowe’s and ordered one that they have on sale that will fit the space in my kitchen where the old one sits now.  It was the only model that fit just right and luckily it was on sale for $160 off.  I’m paying $29 to have it delivered and installed and $50 to have the old one hauled away, so I’m still coming out ahead.

Sure didn’t want to have to replace a fridge this close to flying to New Zealand, but it was necessary and I’ve had the old one for at least 15 years, possibly longer, so it was time. (I may have brought it over from Lakewood when I moved here to the Midland area. Can’t recall.)

No one local had the size (used) that fits in the space I have for it

I looked on OfferUp, craigslist, and called Habitat for Humanity (all three regional locations) and didn’t find anything in the right size, so then I looked at Lowe’s and saw that they were having a sale on fridges for the next two days, so I called the Puyallup location to see if they had one in the size I needed, and they did.

Tonight, I cleaned the old one out and put all the food into Jackie’s garage fridge for now, except for the frozen food, because the freezer still works. I can move that out just before the delivery happens on Wednesday.

The new one is a 14.33 cubic foot model 28″ wide and 27″ deep. It’s almost exactly the same size as the old one. I’m glad it’s a little shallower because it will be easier to fit into the space.

But gosh darn it, I really didn’t need this unexpected expense right now!  I’m just glad my only credit card was all but paid off before tonight!  With any luck at all, I should be able to make enough money between now and when we leave for NZ to get it paid off again. That’s my goal. We’ll see how it goes…

GRRR!
