One Short Outing Today

September 7, 2025

Today (Sunday) Topher and I made one short outing to Mas por Menos (More For Less) so I could get additional practical necessities and colones. The wonderful Uber driver agreed to wait while we shopped so he could “regreso” (return) us to our point of origin, Villas Escondidas.  I gave him a nice tip for doing that.

We told him we’d be thirty minutes, and we were in the store exactly that amount of time.

Upon our return, we spotted Clarkie Mullen and his husband Dale sitting with Melaney and Laurie. I was absolutely delighted to meet them, as I’ve been following their journey to CR for several months. We got pictures taken together. When I see them, I will share them here. I think Laurie will post them on the Facebook page for Rainbow Refuge/VE if she hasn’t already!

Photogenic, eh?

Topher and I hopped into the pool while the sun was out. As it started to cloud over for the routine afternoon rain, we got out and went our separate ways. He wanted to logon to a Zoom meeting and I wanted to logon here and give you an update, as puny as it is.  I’m planning to veg for the rest of the day and tomorrow, ahead of my three-day sojourn to San Jose for fingerprinting and to submit my pensionado application package and deposit $$ into the bank of CR for the costs of said application and translation fees.

I have placed the corn I got at the feria outside my back window to see if I can entice a neighborhood iguana or two to stop by for a free meal.  If it/they do and I see the spectacle, I will take pictures, for sure!

Melaney tells me a troupe of white-faced capuchin monkeys has been spotted about two and a half miles from here as the crow flies, and she hopes they don’t come any closer, because they are aggressive and steal stuff.  I’d love to see them, but not right here, for that reason.

Saw my first CR hummingbird this afternoon.  I haven’t been here enough to look around much, but I  expect I’ll see a lot more when I stop rubbernecking everywhere else!  By the time I get back here, I’m usually finished with  rubbernecking for the day!

What else?  Charli is sleeping under my bedcovers today. I think she’s relaxed enough now to sleep her usual 20+ hours per day, but she’s active at night right now.  Looks out the windows and returns for petting a lot.

Yesterday Fiskar the community cat  snuck in here while I wasn’t looking and I went off to dinner, so he and Charli got a chance to meet. I don’t think they made any headway as comrades.  As soon as I opened the door, Fiskar scrammed. Charli was under the bed, looking like she’d had quite enough of that visitor for the day, but neither of them were any the worse for wear. No hair tufts were in evidence anywhere inside the room.

I tried to register for MediSmart last night and this morning, but the payment interface page wasn’t working. Mel says maybe that’s because today is Sunday, so we’ll try again tomorrow. If that doesn’t work, I’ll call them and have it done manually over the phone.  I want to get Charli and myself covered asap as I have an INR appointment  coming due in about two weeks.

I guess that’s all the news that’s semi-newsworthy, so I’ll shut up and let  you get back to what you were doing.
