On this last full day of government sanity before sociopatic forces take over once again from the highest offices in the land (now fortified by people ready, willing and able to kill and die for T-Rex), I am back to preserving my journal at the rate of ten (sometimes more) volumes per day.
There are still occasional glitches in the software’s exporting system, the responsibility of which I place exclusively on Genius Scan’s engineers (although they disavow it), but between waiting (sometimes for ten or 15+ minutes), re-trying, and shutting off my phone and starting it again, I have been able to preserve an additional ten volumes today.
I figure I am about 1/3 of the way through the project, but it may be less than that. Some of the journals are two-sided pages, others are one-sided, so I’m guessing how much of the total workload I’ve managed to get through already. I am perhaps too optimistic on that score.
The good news is that the final box I discovered and hauled out was half-filled with repeats of the phone logs of my 1000+ calls with the Kelleys, so I was able to just pitch them on the fire and burn them up. My series of books KELLEY PHONE TAGS: The Rest of the Story contains all of that info.
So, I have this many left:
It’s a bunch. The slimmest volumes you see above on the left are like the ones I’ve been doing most recently, volumes 20 thru 68. Each of those is about 75 pages per volume, one-sided.
The first twenty volumes were in bound books of various sizes, and they were significantly larger, but since I’ve burned them up already, I can’t compare stacks to see which is larger. It doesn’t really matter. All that matters is what’s left. I have to get these preserved before I head to Costa Rica in September. And as long as Genius Scan continues to behave/minorly misbehave, I still have plenty of time, but since I don’t know how reliable the app is going to be, I want to get through them with all deliberate speed so none get left behind as the result of a major glitch. See, there is a method to my madness!
The journals, although I’m only spot checking them, are real treasures. Every time I take the time to take a look, I think, “Yeah, this is a worthwhile endeavor. This info will be great fodder for any future autobiography I write, if I do.”
And it’s even great because it documents my family’s foibles (including my own, I rush to assure you!!!) in case any future relative ever wants to take a look and try to figure out the generational curses and blessings they are saddled with!
And There Are the Weekly Garage Sales
Every Saturday from noon to three all winter long, I will be having garage sales. I ’bout froze my feet off yesterday, standing on the cement floor talking to visitors while wearing (on my feet, I rush to assure you!) only skimpy socks and shoes. About halfway through, I segued to wool socks and heftier shoes. That saved the day and my toes-ies. I’ll dress that way all winter, you may be sure!
I’m getting repeat customers, and we’ve become friends. A few of them are considering Costa Rica as a final destination, too. One is a female Iraq war vet. Fabulous gal! So the three hours fly by fast. That’s good this time of year. BRRRRR!
NEW GOAT HOME ON THE NEAR HORIZON
I may have found a home for my two goats, too. There is an older gentleman with perfect living conditions for them. He has met them, loves them, and says his grandkids (not crumb-crushers, older kids) will love having them as pets and spoiling them rotten. He has had goats before and knows all their requirements. He has to get his spouse’s or his grandkids’ parents’ approval, but he thinks he’ll get it. I will know next week.
I’ll see if I can get him to adopt the “crip chick” (one-legged hen), too. She’s used to hanging with the goats because the other hens pecked on her so I took her out of the hen pasture and put her with the goats during the day. At night, she goes into a carrier with food and water so a raccoon doesn’t get her.
If this gentleman doesn’t take the goats and hen, I have another back-up plan. Jackie has friends who will take them. They have a farm in Graham with other goat-amenable livestock.
MY SPANISH LESSONS ARE PROCEEDING
I have ordered additional Spanish workbooks which will be here pretty soon.nI missed last night’s lesson (my first miss sincenI started 13 days ago) because I was so exhausted and cold from the garage sale that I went to bed at 5 p.m.That’s when I usually take the Spanish lesson, but I knew I’d fall asleep if I turned it on, so I gave myself a pass last night. I’ll get back with the program tonight without fail. I’m beginning to dream and interact with my dream characters in Spanish, so I’m right where I want to be at this stage!
PODCAST INTERVIEW WITH ME SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW
I will be interviewed tomorrow (on MLK JR Day and De’s 105th birthday) at NOON for at least two hours. It will go live about a week later. I’ll keep you in the loop and post the link when it’s available to see.
I think that’s all the news that’s it to print for this time!
I’ll go back to preserving at least a couple more journals now!
