Next week I will have a reconfigured workspace. I’m itching to make it happen and cannot wait, but I have to because the new elements won’t be here until then.
The upper part of my work desk (first image below) will go across the den to the top of my bookcase (second image below) where I keep copies of the books I’ve written and the dozen-plus books I’ve edited for other folks (third image below). Three new books — perhaps five — will be joining those soon, because my cousin wants me to edit his upcoming two sci-fi books and another title and two potential clients are thinking of having me edit theirs. Not all at the same time, fortunately!)
The first title (the one you can’t read) is A Callahan Carol by Emily March.
Her usual editor wasn’t available, so she hired me, liked what I did for her, and wrote me a wonderful thank you note, which I can’t locate at the moment. I thought it was in the book, but I can’t find it. I hope it isn’t lost for good!
Most of the books I edited/enhanced have inscriptions in them from the authors:
The Amazing Journey inscription (above)
STOP THE INTRUDER inscription
POWER THROUGH:
Specific Success Strategies for Soloprenaurs Who Want to Change Your Community One Day at a Time inscription
I came up with the title and wrote the back cover copy for this one. Here it is:
Be Wise Now inscription
RIPPLES inscription
ROMANS TO JUDE inscription
SELF CARE inscription
FLIGHT OF THE RED HOT PEPPERS inscription
The Ride of Your Life inscription
AWESOME BY ACCIDENT inscription
(Gene writes holding a pen in his mouth/ a stylus in his mouth when typing, so I cherish this inscription especially!)
COTTON FIELDS AND CRAZY NOTIONS:
A Daughter Remembers Life in Sharecropper’sFamily
inscription
Oh, I wrote the back cover copy for COTTON FIELDS, too, and came up with the title. Here’s the back cover copy for it:
MRS. PEACHES inscription
ONCE MY DADDY HAD A MULE inscription
Yeah, I did a few of these editing jobs pro bono. You can probably guess which ones by the subject matter, written by folks with great stories and meager finances. I’m glad the stories are out for all to read, enjoy and experience.
How did I get off on that subject when I started this post to say I will be reconfiguring my work space? Beats me! OH! I see! I just re-read it again. Stream of consciousness thought, it’s called! LOL!
