Today my sister took possession of her new puppy, a Shorkie (Shih tzu Yorkie) mix, and she is over the moon. I totally understand why. What a cutie!
Jackie named her Hope because she was born on our mother’s birthday in November (Mom’s name was Dorothea Hope at birth, which happened to be Thanksgiving Day this year, as it was the year my mom was born in 1921) so the name is perfect! (Mom always said she wanted to come back as one of our pets, so there’s that, too!!)
Hope is the runt of her litter, so she probably won’t get to be more than about five pounds. Her littermate will grow to around ten pounds. The lady she’s getting her from says she’s ready to come live with Jackie now, at about ten weeks old. She has had her first set of shots and is a bundle of energy.
Jackie bought a hoodie so she can wear it backward (my idea) and keep Hope in the hoodie part in front of her while she’s acclimating to Jackie as her new “mommy” and because she will be lonely leaving her littermates for a time unless there is someone close at hand to become her “littermate.” Jackie can keep her close to her heartbeat and body scent this way so she knows she isn’t alone in her new surroundings, and so she will bond with Jackie FIRST and FOREMOST. (A lot of people will want to hold and cuddle with Hope, and Jackie wants to be sure she bonds with her instead of someone else.)
Jackie has been up since 2 a.m. in eager anticipation.
I will get a photo of them together as soon as I can and post it here. You will fall in love, I promise!
