My New Venus Flytrap is doing well

February 4, 2024

My new Venus flytrap appears to be doing well so far, but all of the traps are closed up due to being jostled, unboxed, and fiddled with to settle it into its new, larger pot. They don’t like being “harassed”!

I did manage to feed it a mealworm before it closed up, though, so it has nutrition. (I fed it before unboxing it.)

I just watched some YouTube videos to find out more about the species. Fascinating plant!

FAST FACTS:

They never need to be fed insects.

They thrive in sunny conditions for 10+ hours a day.

They must be watered with pure water only (rainwater, distilled water without added minerals, or reverse osmosis water). Tap water and bottled water kill carnivorous plants.

Dormancy: Venus flytraps must undergo a dormancy period for 2-3 months during the winter by putting them in a cold location (outdoors, in a cold garage, or porch).

(OK. I just did that with mine.)

There’s a lot to know about this species!

I’ve ordered a grow light for it so it gets adequate light every day after its dormancy period.
