Monday Monday! I’m getting some stuff done today that is on my must do list. Some of it will get done thanks to Lisa!
Credit Card Kerfluffle
My credit card was declined last week, and for a week before, some of the very small auto pays in the system have been declined, as well, which tells me that my credit union has detected (perhaps) an unauthorized use of the card and shut it down.
I tried calling, but don’t have an international calling plan, so today Lisa is going to go to the credit union for me (with me in her pocket on WhatsApp) to see what the situation is and whether or not I need to have a new card sent to me. (If I do, I want them to extend it out beyond 2028, when this one expires, so I don’t have to jump through hoops to get it renewed in just two years.)
If I do need a new card sent to me, I have been given permission to use a local friend’s post office box to send it to. The challenge will be to have the card authorized for use before it leaves the States (perhaps by Lisa, my POA) so I won’t have to call in to authorize it when it arrives here. beecause, again, I don’t have an international calling plan on my phone. (Why would I need one, since WhatsApp and Facebook video chat are both free?)
So, at about 2 pm my time I’m going to be hanging out here anticipating a potential video WhatsApp call from Lisa while she’s at the credit union, in case they need proof that I’m who I say I am and that I have the card in question in hand.
Then, on Wednesday
…when my Social Security check gets deposited at the credit union, I will get online on a video chat with a representative there to walk me through setting up the Traditional IRA that I need to have happen between now and 45 days from now. I have a limited amount of time to set up a new IRA before the gov’t will levy a hefty fine (er, tax!!!) for NOT placing the funds into a new IRA within 60 days.
When both of these things are completed, I will feel a whole lot better than I do right now. Having to handle unusual, out-of-the-ordinary financial matters make me react like a long-tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs. Finance is about the only thing that provokes anxiety in me. (OK, health concerns would do that, too, but — so far — I’ve been fine as far as health goes, so I don’t stress about that!)
It will be nice to have everything settled and back to “automated” (credit union-wise) so I don’t get any more surprises along these lines!
It Feels so Wonderful to Have Lisa HELP with This
Lisa has been a real hero and life saver for me. She’s my POA so she can get stuff done in my absence that might not otherwise be doable from afar. My stress level is very low this morning, as a result. She’s level-headed and able to navigate with confidence in the few areas where I flail and become fearful and frustrated.
My Knee
My knee felt so great yesterday when I got up that I abused it by walking 8500 steps, nearly all of them within 90 minutes. That was a mistake!
So, today, when I got up and it felt good, I directed myself: “No walking today or tomorrow. Give your knee a rest!”
That’s what I’m going to do. I will take the bus into Grecia on Wednesday again and walk some there. But until then I’m going to protect and preserve my recovery to see if I can get my knee back to 100% that way.
Guess it’s time for breakfast!
I drink two cups of coffee every morning and eat a piece of toast with honey on it upon getting out of bed at 5:45 or so, but by this time of morning (it’s 9:45 now), my tummy wants a little more, so that’s where I’m going now.
I’ll write more later. Maybe even this afternoon after the credit union event (or non-event, as it may become). We’ll see!
