The new Speaker of the House (voted in by EVERY GOP member WITHOUT EXCEPTION) Mike Johnson is a miserable jerk. He’s now third in line to the presidency. Only Joe Biden and Kamala Harris stand between him and becoming POTUS.
DEM AND INDEPENDENT VOTERS, SAVE US ALL IN 2024!
The man is a scourge. Click on the link above to read about his record. He’s an election denier, a Southern Baptist evangelist, an anti-women, anti-gun safety, pro-disenfranchisement advocate… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Because I want to keep these posts as positive as I can during these troubling times for our nation and the world, that’s all I’ll say on this matter beyond VOTE STRAIGHT BLUE IN 2024 IF YOU WANT TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY, because the GOP has every intention of scuttling it in favor of their autocratic, fascist, racist, misogynistic,anti-LGBTQIA+ regime.
We sane, sensible, compassionate, diverse, united voters are what stands between preserving, protecting, and defending our Constitution and our stated ideals and losing them forever.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION WE WILL EVER EXPERIENCE. IF WE LOSE THIS ONE, THERE WILL BE NO FUTURE ELECTIONS. THE GOP WILL MAKE SURE OF THAT.
They are still in the process of bringing to fruition their attempted coup.
In Other (Less Distressing) News)
(I’m having a hard time overcoming the pit in my stomach to write about something positive following the above fact of life. I feel half sick over what transpired yesterday in our nation’s capitol.)
I got up at o-dark-thirty to have a cup of herbal tea (since I fell asleep at 8, I awoke at 2), to transfer money from Upwork to my bank account, to wash last night’s dishes, and to clean up my den/work space. Cleaning up my den only took about ten minutes, much to my surprise. It LOOKED a lot worse than it actually was.
Usually it takes me a half hour or more to sift through the piles of paper and pitch what’s outdated or already handled and stack what needs to remain close at hand. Not this morning. Turns out it was already pretty well separated, so all I had to do was toss what was no longer necessary. Easy peasy! It didn’t even fill up half my recyclable/shreddable trash can. Very nice!
I’m in touch with Diane Parets again
Diane and I were Shambala volunteers back in the day. She was more involved than I was by quite a lot. We became Facebook friends again a while ago and we will be video IMing this Saturday to catch up. She worked at SAG/AFTRA (the actors union) for decades. She’s a big De fan and animal advocate, now retired and living near Las Vegas. We had some fun times together. She remembers Deaken with great fondness, too. I may tell you more after we reconnect on Saturday. Or I may not. We’ll see if we cover anything of interest to anyone other than ourselves!
The 25th anniversary of Mom’s passing was this past Monday
It’s impossible to believe that Mom has been gone for a quarter century until I realize that she never met a number of her grandchildren, including Casey and Jamie, one of whom is in college (Jamie) and the other of whom has graduated from college and is pursuing a teaching career. Eegads, time flies!
We, her children, still remember her with immense fondness, and I’m actually glad she wasn’t here for 911, the Jan 6th insurrection, and what’s happening to this nation today, because she was a proud Republican and I think she would be as sick to her stomach as I am over what has become of her party. (It has never been my chosen party, but it hasn’t always been this insane.) (It blows my mind how a person born poor, as she was, and as well read as she was, could ever have supported the GOP during her lifetime. But I never asked her, and so I don’t know what her rationale was.)
I’m an RFK SENIOR/Bernie Sanders/AOC-type activist and advocate
I never have found a GOP candidate I could support in the highest offices of the land since becoming eligible to vote in 1969. Not one. That’s sad, but true.
By then, Tricky Dick and his ilk were on the ascendancy, and Watergate was just around the corner, so that well was poisoned early on, and has only gotten worse since. Nixon was pardoned by his successor Gerald Ford (a huge mistake, looking back on it now), and that was the beginning of slaps on the wrist for GOP retrobates instead of JUSTICE.
And what Nixon did was indeed mean, nasty and illegal, but nothing near what the GOP is attempting today. And so far, they’re just getting slaps on the wrist and immunity for telling the truth about what happened in the Oval Office and beyond it so that HOPEFULLY the chief architect of this unmitigated disaster will someday face true justice for what he has done to this nation’s reputation and policies, and what he has done to the world. Malignant narcissistic grifter that he is, blowing things up is all he knows how to do.
He’s been doing it for as long as he has been in business, destroying subcontractor’s businesses, cheating gullible people, and more. I’ve known this about him for decades. He’s a true menace!
And IF (VOTERS, FORBID!!!) he gets back into office, I will probably be on his hit list. I’m a writer, I’m trans, and I won’t defend him in any way, shape, or form. So, yeah, I’m a prime candidate for the full force of his wrath. I’ve read about and witnessed what despots do to mouthy dissidents with any kind of social media platform and audience.
So, yeah — it’s best that Mom isn’t able to witness what’s happening now. Same with DeForest and Carolyn Kelley. Carolyn was here for 911, but De wasn’t, thankfully. He’d have had his heart broken… as all of us did who were here and old enough to realize what happened, and its sad aftermath…
OK, I’m back on negative topics again. Sorry. It’s on my mind. What can I say?
I will go hug my kitties and listen to instrumental smooth jazz music and get my equilibirum back in plenty of time for the next post. That’s my next goal!
