It rained last night (finally!) and I got to enjoy the ecstacy of sleeping in a tent with a tarp over it so I could enjoy it. T’was HEAVEN ON EARTH!
It will be a long time before I get to experience this again, looks like. We’re in a drought here in the Pacific Northwest — not as bad as most areas of the country, but a drought nevertheless.
The rivers are very low
During last week’s bike trip and the one the week before, Lisa and I noticed how low the water is in the river we see (the Carbon River) between Orting and South Prairie. Lisa took pictures to show the difference between several years ago and this year:
July, 2023
Same spot a few years ago taken in July or August
And we heard (and saw) very few birds.
Our pollywog place looked like this a few years ago…
This year it looks like this…
In the past, this log was completely submerged under approximately two feet of water!
The glaciers on Mount Rainier are disappearing, so there is less runoff every year.
CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL, folks!
