If there’s a heaven, God designed it for people like Jimmy Carter.
He knew who he served as President. The people. And his God, which wasn’t the Southern Baptist God of his youth. He outgrew that denomination and became a true Christ follower.
I’m watching the tributes to him all this week, which are helping me recall the scores of ways in which he served this nation and the world before, during, and after his presidency. What a legacy this man leaves.
I am so glad he was my second-ever vote. (I became eligible to vote just before 1972, when I voted for George McGovern.) He remains one of my proudest votes ever.
May he rest in eternal peace, as every good and faithful servant has been promised.
