Happy Presidents Day!
I’m taking the day off to recover completely from yesterday’s chores and prepare physically to help Ben Taylor move to Tacoma tomorrow.
SCENT-FREE PARADISE
When I got up this morning and opened the door to my den/office, I was greeted by the sweetest, cleanest scent.
Yesterday’s deep cleaning of the ferret/rat habitat has made all the difference. You would never know I share this space with eight rats now.
Until I did the deep-cleaning yesterday (including removing the fabric screen that I had attached to the outside and top of the ferret/rat habitat), there was always a slight scent of “pet store” in here, but today it’s GONE! Whee! I’m very happy about that.
THE GOATS ARE HAPPY
The goats are enjoying their clean new shed. It’s raining and misty today, so they won’t be setting hoof outside the shed and covered “goat port” unless that changes. My goats hate the rain. I hear most goats hate the rain; that has been the case here, for sure!
My “baby” goats are seven years old now, which means their moms are at least eleven and thirteen. Goats usually live about 14 years, so in the not-too-distant future, I will be down to the two “baby” goats, Tillie and Mister Tumnus. (No, I won’t be replacing them. The blackberry bushes are eradicated in their pasture now and other native plants and grasses can take their place when all of the goats are gone seven to ten years hence.)
MARCH WILL BE BUSY FOR ME APPOINTMENTS-WISE
I have an INR finger poke and a dental cleaning early in March, and kitty Patches needs to see her vet mid-March to see if we need to up her thyroid medication from what it is now. (I think we do. She isn’t losing much weight and she is shedding like crazy, two indicators that she is still not getting enough synthetic thyroid in her system to help her much. She is definitely not overeating. )
I also need to set up a date and time in March to drive to Seattle and get a consultation to have my #8 tooth space filled with an implant at the U of WA Dental School. (I wanted to get the tax prep and Ben move behind me before I set that up. )
And every other Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time starting this weekend (Feb. 26th) Hannah McCrane and I (and any other co-hosts who can get away to join us) will be co-hosting my new podcast, EVER NEW. So, that means I’ll be occupied on March 12th and 26th, too.
I also turn 71 in March.
EVER-PRESENT WRITING CLIENTS
Now you can see why I wanted to get my indoor and outdoor spring cleaning out of the way early! I’m going to be doing all of the above plus writing for various clients (two live shows, three or four blog posts, and a new course are already on the schedule for March). Luckily, the script for one of the live shows and several of the blog posts are already finished. (As soon as I get a definite assignment, I do it, so I’m always miles ahead of deadlines.)
WHAT ELSE?
Nothing that I can think of at the moment except to say I’m reading UNTHINKABLE by Jamie Raskin. It’s an excellent book. I’ve always admired and respected Rep. Raskin, but reading this lifts my admiration to a whole new level. He would be a great POTUS. I don’t know if he has aspirations along those lines, but I hope he does. I’d love to see him and AOC as a team in the near future.
