FIGHT THE RIGHT, NOT PRESIDENT BIDEN!
Hand-wringing Democrats, chill! The sky is NOT falling! Please develop a little faith in the common sense of the American electorate.
The Former Guy (a once-convicted serial sexual molester, Supreme Court stuffer, multiple bankruptcy-prone administrator, and 34-count felon) has a cult following, but even that is shrinking.
We could likely run a chimpanzee against Trump and win this year, as long as we all recognize what’s at stake if he wins again (Project 2025, POTUS immunity for the most corrupt candidate in living memory, etc.) and turn out to vote BLUE up and down the ballot.
Instead of wringing your hands, let the Biden “worry-of-the-week” play out. The man has a cabinet who works with him every day. If they begin to see something that makes him unfit to faithfully execute his duties, they have the authority to do something about it. (25th amendment.) I don’t see any of them with their hair on fire.
You and I aren’t in the Oval Office with him every day. They are.
We’re being inundated with “OMG!” reactions from corporate media that is in it to win it for Trump hook, line and sinker, and who want ratings, so of course they’re piling on. They don’t pound on Trump’s verbal lapses, or his lying, or his multiple indictments. They just pile on Biden. Who’s paying the bills? Who’s sponsoring these programs? The folks to whom Trump has promised (and in the past has delivered) tax cuts. Pay attention!
So… have some faith in American voters. They can compare the policies and the accomplishments (and failings) of these two polar-opposite administrations and decide which one has their back. All we need to do (since corporate-owned mainstream media won’t) is to keep the stark contrast front-and-center in our social media and in our conversations with others.
And we need to write and send post cards to swing states encouraging Democrats not to sit this one out, even if they aren’t enamored of Biden. (Multiple organizations have postcard writing campaigns, among them https://www.turnoutpac.org/postcards/
This race is about if we’re going to step up to the plate during this crucial election year and defend democracy against dictatorship. It truly is a battle for the soul of our nation.
Joe Biden is a good man.
I believe that if President Biden truly felt he could leave the race and we would still achieve victory over Trump, he would. He doesn’t need this position to further cement his place of honor (14th best of all presidents to date, with Trump being in last place) in the pantheon of American presidents. But he doesn’t know that; he believes he’s the best candidate to beat Trump. And according to Allan Lichtman, the man who has correctly predicted the winner of 13 of the last 14 POTUS candidates, Biden is the man to beat Trump again this year.)
Trump is a 34-time convicted felon, sexual predator, insurrectionist instigator, stochastic terrorist*, and congenital liar
Debates and interviews do not determine success. Track records do.
Barack Obama didn’t win his first debate. Ronald Reagan didn’t win his debates. Hillary Clinton won all her debates and lost the 2016 election.
A president doesn’t need to be robust (FDR had polio, JFK a badly injured back) or to be a great interview in order to do his or her job. Their skill set requires negotiation, diplomacy, the ability to weigh options, and resolve, among other things. Biden has all those in spades.
Polls are just a snapshot in time, and become less accurate with each election cycle.
I don’t believe polls this early in the game. Most people haven’t even tuned in to the 2024 election yet. I’ll wager that if you did a People on the Street interview right now and asked passersby who is running for POTUS this year, many couldn’t tell you. And if you asked them which of the two major candidates’ policies they like best, without naming the policies — having them pull them out of their memory banks — they wouldn’t have an answer, or if they did, they might attribute it to the wrong candidate. (For example, because Roe v Wade was overturned by Trump’s Supreme Court during Biden’s term in office, about 25% of voters think overturning Roe v Wade was a Biden policy. Those of us who know better need to correct that assumption pronto, so instead of hand-wringing, get busy getting the Biden-Harris record of acccomplishments out there into your social media!)
* Stochastic terrorism is targeted political violence that has been instigated by hostile public rhetoric directed at a group or individual. Unlike incitement to terrorism, this is accomplished by using indirect, vague, or coded language that allows the instigator to plausibly disclaim responsibility for the resulting violence.
