“Dammit, Jim, I’m a copywriter not a roost builder!”
I thought I’d take a brief break yesterday and make an additional chicken roost. T’was a great idea…right up until I hammered my thumb while trying to tack a board into place. YEOW!!!
Talk about an ow-ee! I hit my thumb as hard as I would have hit the nail –and I’m no wuss when it comes to pounding nails. My dad was a construction guy and one of my first toys was a “hammer the wooden peg into the board” contraption. I was hammering real nails into real boards before I was five. Never in a gazillion years did I ever think I’d smack my thumb with an errant hammer full force!
But I did. Big time. I walked around for a while afterward almost afraid to look at it, it hurt so bad. I sweated profusely and kept working, figuring I’d “walk/work it off” (the pain).
When I finally looked at it, I was happy to see I hadn’t popped it open; I’d just bruised the heck out of it underneath the thumbnail. And because I hadn’t popped it open, it got as swollen as it could without popping open. And throbbed.
I put it in a glass of ice water for 20 minutes three different times in the first 90 minutes or so, hoping that would help it feel better. It did.
I’m surprised it doesn’t look worse than it does today…and that it doesn’t hurt all that much unless I happen to bump it. I don’t think I’ll lose the nail. At least, I hope not.
Maybe it’s these new glasses. Yeah, I’ll blame it on them. Otherwise, I’d have to blame myself and I’m not ready for that kind of commitment yet.
Guess I’d better stick to writing, although I’m happy to report that the chickens have nominated me for Mom-Hen of the Year for willingly sacrificing one of my digits to ensure comfort to theirs.
Thank you and you’re welcome. Now please lay some more eggs now that you have additional roosting places at night. Thank you!
In Other News…
I got tapped this afternoon to make a presentation tomorrow morning for the 723 Building Business gang. They asked me to discuss 30-second commercials/elevator pitches again. All right-y then; the folks at 723 who also attend other networking groups with me are going to get downright sick of this topic (I presented it just last week at UCN), but I have a better idea now for how to write them since I last presented at 723, so they’ll find tomorrow’s guidelines easier to follow.
That’s a good thing.
I do want them to know that I’m not a one trick pony. I can talk on other topics, and do.
Shall I share the insights with you right here? Sure, why not?
Tomorrow. Promise!
