My mind is playing happy games with me again.
Last night it plunked me down in a place where a fantasy movie was in the process of being filmed. I was out in a pasture-like place and an army of what appeared to be Little People were engaging in “battle” (bloodlessly) with some invading force. And they were winning. Great joy and anticipation were spreading across the land.
(Jeez, I hope that was a hopeful sign for the upcoming November 5th elections.)
If all the “little people” (the folks the GOP considers unworthy of consideration or representation, given their white male supremacist ideology) engage, there is no way we can’t win, bloodlessly. I’m very much looking forward to that day.
Then, after I left the scene that was being filmed, I found myself at Warner Bros. again remembering that I hadn’t let my boss, Dan Kronstadt, know that after I got back from New Zealand I came down with COVID and was laid up for awhile. I was very worried that he might have fired me because I didn’t report for work after my vacation! So, I went looking for him to explain. I still had my phlegmy throat (as I do to this day) and a little breathlessness to show him I really had fallen ill and was still in recovery mode. I found him and explained what had happened. He said, “Well, I had your desk emptied and boxed up but, given the circumstances, come on back!”
I woke up at that point. Dan Kronstadt was my best boss ever. He let me get away to take care of De when he was dying. He held my place for me for months. And then I elected not to come back because Carolyn (Mrs. Kelley) still needed me. I did eventually go back to WB, but by that time, my spot had been filled, so I went to another department in the MIS building and landed two spots there before deciding to move back to Washington in 2004.
I still very fondly remember my decade-plus career at Warner Bros. Best job and best people ever. It was like working on the Enterprise. People from every country were working there in the IT-MIS department.
Right up until 9-11. Then it became like an Israeli compound, with security guards checking trunks and putting mirrors under cars in search of bombs. A nightmare. People from Middle East nations were scrutinized — run through background checks — again.
Eventually, things setted back down to what passes for normal these days. But having MY Enterprise subjected to what I considered scurrilous scrutiny really rattled me. I became a staunch defender of the Muslims and the Jews at WB.
I still am. Profiling is wrong! The GOP profiles everyone who isn’t a male white nationalist supremacist. They divide Americans, America, and other nations into us and them. I hate them to the cre of my being for that.
I always will.
