Got My Tooth Veneer Fixed and Other Important News

October 16, 2022

The University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle fixed the broken porcelain veneer on one of my front teeth using a composite material that matched the original color perfectly, so you would never know it was ever broken in half almost right down the middle. I couldn’t be happier.

They didn’t even have to numb the area except for using the gel. No shot.  I asked them not to unless it was necessary because my Warfarin level is at 3 and although that’s safe, it could have caused excess bleeding at the injection site and bruising later, and I wanted to avoid that.

Next week I have to go up again to have a chipped tooth fixed, and after that, in December, I will be having the abutment and crown put on the implant that was placed in September. After that, I will have NO dental issues at all…

ENTERPRISE MEMORIAL FLIGHT

… which is perfect timing because the launch of the Enterprise Memorial Flight has been pushed to early 2023 (probably January), so my smile should be 100% good to go by then. (If the abutment and crown aren’t placed by January, I can still wear my flipper, so I’ll look and sound okay either way.)

MEETING MY OLDEST AND MOST FAVORITE CLIENT SOON

I will be meeting one my “oldest” client (in terms of length of service, not age!) and her husband in Florida, too, while I’m there (they live less than an hour from the launch site at Cape Canaveral) so I’m very excited about that. I think I will be able to get them to the launch, too. I’m looking into that now.

EBAY AUCTION FOR KELLEY ITEMS

Within the week, we will be launching the first in a series of ebay auctions where I will be offering a great many of my Kelley-related archival items. If you want to get something that the Kelleys actually gave me, be sure to check it out (those items are identified with the code DK plus an identification number). I will provide the link to the site as soon as I get it. First up will be action figures, commemorative plates and mugs that the Kelleys gave me, ten items per week for as long as the total number of items last. Later on, I will also be offering some of De’s duds (clothing coded DK) and rare photos and other stuff from my decades-in-the-making archival items. Anything I didn’t get directly from De and Carolyn will be coded KMS plus an identification number. All will come with Certificates of Provenance (certifying the items were given to me by De and Carolyn) OR Certificates of Authenticity (eg, signed photos, notes, letters, cards, etc.)

NEXT “EVER NEW” WILL FEATURE A HALLOWEEN KELLEY STORY

Catch it here at 10:30 Pacific Time here: https://www.twitch.tv/NDBMedia

Here’s the announcement I put out about it: “On this coming week’s EVER NEW, a lot of important things will be announced, nearly all of them DeForest Kelley related. You DON’T want to miss it if you’re a STAR TREK/McCoy/Kelley collector. And Kris will share an except from his book DeFOREST KELLEY UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, A Harvest of Memories from the Fan Who Knew Him Best, about a lunatic Halloween stunt that he and a friend perpetrated on the Kelleys at their home in Sherman Oaks.
“EVER NEW with Kris M. Smith, Hannah McCrane and Guests IS ABOUT LIVING OUT LOUD, FORGING LASTING CONNECTIONS, AND VISITING WITH EFFERVESCENT THINKERS AND DREAMERS. IT’S AN UPLIFTING HOUR THAT PROMISES TO LEAVE EVERYONE FEELING BETTER.
SO, WHO’S UP FOR SOME FUN?”
SOLSTICE IS EATING ME OUT OF HOUSE AND HOME … HELP!!!

I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’M DELGHTED HE’S STAYING LOCAL UNTIL HE REACHES MATURITY AND FINDS A MATE TO WANDER OFF WITH because he needs to put on a fat suit before winter ensues in earnest. Believe me, he’s on the fast track for doing that. I’ve gone through almost three 20-pound bags of dry cat and dog food in a little over a month’s time recently (yes, some other wild ones are probably helping eat the stuff that is left out overnight for Solstice), plus dozens of eggs and endless bags of grapes that I put out daily for him. It’s expensive to grow a raccoon. He has cost me something like $1000 since June 21st! If  you would like to send a contribution to help keep him in grub, I’d appreciate it! My Paypal address is kristinemsmithATmsnDOTcom. Please put in the subject line FOR SOLSTICE, so I know what it’s for. Thanks so much!

Solstice is so much fun. I sit out with him a couple times a day (weather permitting) to watch him splash around in the 10-gallon aquarium fishing out grapes to eat, massaging Tillie (my littlest goat), and “counting coup” with Bobby and Miss Kitty. The cats tolerate his silliness and Tillie seems to truly LOVE his ministrations. He has three cloth toys that I got him at a Dollar Store (one squeaks when he bites it, the other makes a crinkly noise) which he carries into one of his water dishes and “drowns” and then thrashes around in the water, causing cascades of water to exit the dish and henhouse.

He’s truly wild. I cannot and do not touch him. I wanted to keep him wary of human touch so he doesn’t run afoul of people and become a nuisance to anyone. My neighbors have been advised of his presence and will tell me if I need to relocate him to Point Defiance or NW Trek or somewhere else if he does become a nuisance. I feed him in places where I can quickly capture him if need be.

Tree Trimming Time

No sooner had I walked 10K steps yesterday morning when my sister told me she and her son were going to be trimming back the Italian Prune trees and the big cherry tree out front. So, I pitched in to help and put into another 5K steps doing that.  I was mighty sore last night!

COLLINS ELEMENTARY HARVEST FEST

I also spent about an hour at Collins Street Elementary School yesterday wandering around and picking up a Christmas item or two.  One of the artists there had a framed, adorable drawing of a half grown tiger cub that I fell in love with, so I got that for my critter room, and I picked up six wax packages from a Scentsy vendor. (Buy 5 get one free).  I got five woodsy scents (I love wood scents, especially sandalwood, which I forgot to get!!!) and one pumpkin spice.  Barbie-Sue Delaney-McCrane is my customary Scentsy provider, but yesterday I got a few more locally. Ya just can’t have too many Scentsy scents!!!  I love to support small business owners.  I can’t wait to give Lisa what I got her for Christmas. I think she’s gonna love it, and if not, she can give it back to me for my birthday in March!!! HA HA HA HA HA  ‘Cause I sure do love it!

I guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print for this time. Carry on and have a DE-lightful day!
