Going to the Doctor Today

March 21, 2025

I’m going to the doctor today.

(Alas, not that one!)

I’ve been developing a hernia (or something!) for the past several months, so I finally made an appointment to have it looked at.

The problem is, sometimes it’s almost undetectable while at other times it’s a two or three finger length bulge.  I don’t know if they can feel it when it’s small, as it is right now.  When I push inward on the spot, I can feel where it is, but it doesn’t actually bulge right now so I can’t visibly see it today. Usually it gets big after a couple of meals.  (And no it isn’t my stomach!  hee hee hee)

When I went in this morning to drop off a urine sample (I think I have a UTI again  — update: yeppers, I do!), I told the receptionst about the suspected hernia and she found a spot on the calendar so I can get seen today. (Apparently a hernia is considered urgent care, depending on how big it is or where it’s located). So, she wants me seen today.

Which means my entire morning feels like it’s in limbo. Afternoon appointments ruin me for the whole day.

But I certainly do want everything checked out before I move to Costa Rica because I want to be in optimal working order when I arrive there. I won’t be able to get into their caja system until I’m accepted as a pensionado resident, and that can take up to two years, so I’ll be paying medical bills out of my own pocket until I’m approved. So, I only want to worry about paying for INR checks, annual kidney checks and the occasional UTI, nothing else, if at all possible!

Back to twiddling my thumbs now, since there is nothing else to share with y’all that’s worth your precious attention!

HAVE A DE-LIGHTFUL DAY!

Update: The doc scheduled an ultrasound for me to find out what the mass is. Feels and acts like a hernia but it could be other things — most of them benign and easy to manage, a few others malignant.  I’m betting on hernia or benign. Not worried!
