As a result of recent posts I’ve written here, friends are worried about me, including a retired social worker.
My recovery will require not just a blue wave — an historic landslide victory — but a Blue Tsunami on November 5th this year. I simply don’t see any other solution for my malaise.
No one who truly cherishes a non-rich, non-white, non-cis, non-male human being should be voting for any GOP candidates this year
Even if you’re a single issue voter who believes that family planning and the reproductive abilities of women should be overseen and controlled by government, or if you think Biden isn’t doing enough to end the War in Gaza, or any other “wedge issue,” the facts remain:
Joe Biden is a decent, compassionate, deeply thoughtful man who has been a true public servant and has a documentable track record that confirms that.
The other major candidate is a racist, sexist, misogynistic, xenophobic Hitler/Putin/Orban wannabe who is amassing an army of like-minded sycophants willing to treat the rest of us like the expendable riffraff (“dogs”, “animals”, “vermin”) they deem us to be. They don’t want a democratic republic. They want an oligarchic dictatorship, a form of government that is not acountable to the vast majority of people under its banner.
THIS IS A MAJOR CAUSE FOR ALARM
Anyone who isn’t “situationally depressed and anxious” about this is either not paying attention or in cahoots with the wanna be oppressors. There is no middle ground here.
WHAT HAPPENED IN GERMANY CAN HAPPEN HERE
I was born after WW II but the Greatest Generation (to date) included my parents. I have studied what they were up against and what it took to take Hitler down. And until we and our allies took him down, his regime was systematically murdering people who, under their Aryan white supremacist dogma, were deemed flawed human beings and political dissidents: Jews, Roma, LGBTQIA+ people, people with developmental or neurodiverse issues…the list goes on. People like me can easily fall into the crosshairs of tyrants. I’m a published writer (an intellectual who isn’t shy about drawing stark lines between what I believe and what they believe), I’m a trans man, I’m (on paper) a woman, and I’m neurodiverse.
I fit their bill in several ways for elimination, if they get back into power
So, this is personal for me, in addtion to being political, moral, and spiritual. I do not believe we the people should promote or elect exclusionary “us versus them” demogogues to any of our elective positions, not just POTUS but locally and regionally. There is nothing good to be gained in doing so.
AMERICA IS A NATION WHICH HAS NEVER ACHIEVED ITS HIGHEST IDEALS
This is MOSTLY because rich white males stacked the desk in their favor from the outset. And now that there are enough of us to push back, they don’t want to cede any territory. They want to continue to rule the roost. And because they know they’re outnumbered, they’re getting desperate enough to do desperate things, like the attempted January 6th Capitol coup. That was just the beginning of what they’re planning following on the heels of the Newt Gingrich-era strategy to “demonize the DEMS” in Congress to gain political advantage. Read the GOPs 2025 Report. They have no intention of letting up.
2024 IS PERHAPS OUR LAST CHANCE TO SAVE THIS NATION FOR ITS PEOPLE
I wish I could say this is hyperbole or catastrophic thinking. But it isn’t. The GOP plan is right there for all to read. It is no longer a secret; it is a strategy.
And our only viable strategy is to defeat them at the ballot box in such overwhelming numbers that they realize they are DEFEATED and that America is a diverse nation and more powerful and viable because of our diversity.
America cannot remain the Wealthy White Man’s personal playground at the expense of all of the rest of us.
To ensure this, we ALL need to vote BLUE this time. And then we need to hold the DEMS accountable for any foot-dragging they display, since they will have the majorities they need (if we vote blue up and down our ballots) to produce BENEFITS for ALL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE out of the taxes we pay to support “the common defense and welfare” of ALL.
When THAT happens, my mind and stomach can relax. Until then… situational anxiety and depression are actually my allies. They keep my fingers moving across this keyboard to remind every voter who reads this of how absolutely CRUCIAL your vote is this year! 2024 may well be our last chance to weigh in on what kind of nation we want to have in 2025 and beyond.
